SINGAPORE - Police arrested a 48-year-old man, suspected of breaking into two shophouses in Jurong West, on Wednesday (Oct 21) morning.

On Sunday (Oct 18), the owner of one of the shophouses made a police report upon discovering her shop was ransacked, and cash and a mobile phone were missing from the premises.

Officers from the Jurong Police Division conducted investigations and managed to establish the identity of the suspect.

They arrested him along Boon Lay Drive.

According to a police statement late on Wednesday, the suspect is believed to also be involved in a similar case in the neighbourhood.

He will be charged in court on Thursday (Oct 22), for housebreaking and theft by night.

The punishment for the offences is a jail term of up to 14 years and a fine.
