Good job, SGH. WHy don't u hire more FTs to work there? Its a serious case to file a police report thinking there might be foul play. Normally, they should wait for investigations and BOI to be completed. But I am guessing in this case, their investigations are already pointing to a strong deliberate act perpetrated by a staff or staff members. Hence they need to file a police report so that the cops can investigate right away and arrest or prevent suspects from fleeing. That's my guess.

SGH files police report over Hepatitis C cluster

Singapore General Hospital says the police report has been filed so that the police may ascertain if there was any foul play.

SINGAPORE: The Singapore General Hospital (SGH) on Tuesday (Oct 20) filed a police report over a Hepatitis C cluster found in its renal ward.

"After initial internal investigation, we are still unable to determine the cause of the cluster of infection. Currently, an independent review committee appointed by MOH is looking into this with the help of international advisors. The police report has been filed so that the police may ascertain if there was any foul play," SGH said in a statement.

On Oct 6, SGH announced that 22 patients in its renal ward had contracted Hepatitis C. It also said the infection could have been a contributing factor in up to five deaths.

The hospital has since tightened measures at its wards and has screened hundreds of patients and staff for the virus. Its staff are also being interviewed by the independent review committee which includes two international experts.

In a statement late Tuesday, Health Minister Gan Kim Yong said: “With the help of the international advisors, the independent review committee (IRC) will look into the cause of the cluster of Hepatitis C infection in the Singapore General Hospital and identify gaps or weak points that need to be improved."

"Even as the IRC continues its work independently, we are not excluding any probable cause. Hence SGH has made a police report of the incident. This will allow the police to investigate and ascertain if there was any foul play.”

Prime Minister Lee Hsien Loong has also said authorities need to establish what happened, put things right if need be and learn from the experience. "Because we must maintain public confidence, and trust in the healthcare system," Mr Lee said.

Pinoy job ? A tit for tat ?

To kill one is murder; to infect the entire ward leading to death ... that is terrorism.

It is a matter of time before this type of incidents happen given he number of foreigners that PAP brings in.

Where in the article got said they caught the person?

How you know it's foreigner?

50% or more of SGH staff is FT. There is a better then 1 in 2 chance its a FT. Esspecially those types that hate sinkies

Looks like they are rolling the dice here. But I think it's a shrew move on their part.

It cast the suspicion that the hospital had not been negligent and it was a deliberate move by a disgruntled staff to sabotage the hospital.

We all already know & always know....the story had been repeated so many time..." the butler did it"...& did the Minister of Health resign , come clean or commit hara kiri as COW$8 once prescribed the 'cure'...if this was run by the oppositions. "brimstones & fire" will fall on them...

In the good old days, Opposition Parties will commit hari kiri for not doing the checks (which they were supposed to).

Everyone will probably have to go to the hospital at some point of their life. Just look at LKY. It is well known that he went overseas for treatments but he still had to rely on local hospitals.

So even if you are one of the elites, they are vulnerable to "honest" mistakes committed by foreigners.

Either way, it still makes them look bad. First, they have already siamed big time. They have hired outside foreign consultants for the expressed purpose of diverting attention away from a BOI. In fact, a BOI needs to be formed to investigate this, but then, it will be public and all their dirty laundry will be aired. To avoid this, they make a big deal of hiring these overseas consultants so that MOH can be conned into thinking they are on the ball and on top of things. Giving the high preponderance of PAP porlumpars and cronies working in SGH higher management and doctors, they were probably told by MOH to have the big wayang of hiring outside consultants and in return, no BOI will be formed.

Either way, if they are negligent, they will look bad. If its a criminal act, they also look bad for hiring the culprit.

Yes, there no honour & valour these days, the oppositions should commit harakiri for not checking & those in charge too, for both should do it together...
