SINGAPORE - A 34-year-old man was jailed for 20 months and two weeks on Monday (Oct 19) for a series of offences which included housebreaking, committing a rash act, and drug possession and consumption.

A court heard that at about 12.30am on March 7, Muhammad Shaiful Hassan, a trailer driver, went to his girlfriend's house in Rivervale Cresent.

The couple had been quarrelling, and Shaiful also suspected that Ms Zahirah Mohamed Sultan, 40, was seeing someone else.

Ms Zahirah was at home with her two children when she heard Shaiful banging on her fourth-floor door.

She panicked and climbed out of the kitchen window, and stood on the parapet below the clothes hanger rack to hide from him.

Shaiful then used a metal rod he brought along to smash Ms Zahirah's corridor window, before climbing through the broken window into the flat.

When he could not find Ms Zahirah, he took a tricycle and threw it out of the kitchen window.

Shortly after, he saw her standing outside the window and shouted at her to come back into the flat.

He also tried to climb out of the window and down to the ledge where she was.

Afraid, Ms Zahirah started to scale down to the third-floor parapet. But she fell to the ground floor, fracturing both legs, among other injuries.

Shaiful then went to the ground floor and started scolding her.

As a crowd started to form around them, he picked up the tricycle, put it in his vehicle and drove off.

At about 3pm later that day, Shaiful was arrested by the police at a hotel in Geylang, where he was found with a packet of methamphetamine. His urine also tested positive for the drug, which he had consumed the previous day.

For drug possession and consumption, he could have been jailed for up to 10 years and fined up to $20,000 on each charge.

For housebreaking by night, he could have been jailed for up to three years and fined.

For committing a rash act to endanger the safety of others, he could have been jailed for up to six months and fined up to $1,500.
