Vote swing to PAP is because of LKY, these votes are emotional votes and they are not votes of confidence for PAP. These voters are still mourning over LKY and give votes to PAP to repay LKY contribution. In short, these emotional votes are just one -time tribute . Emotional votes are temporary votes not considering living costs and other national interests. They called it---uninformed votes.
Sinkaporeans are mostly paranoid voters, their EQ is extremely low, and they think PAP is a safe place. This kind of feeling is more or less brainwashed by LKY in the olden days when one -eye jack among the blind is king ! Right ?
Some people say goodies and SG 50 toys could be one of the reasons that also contribute to the vote swing, yes, indeed but not a significant role.
Others believe New citizens votes can be fatal to tip votes in any close -fight poll. We agree but this vote swing GE 2015 is also not very significant.
Yes, the vicious attacks at WP TC issues do affect some percentage of WP votes.
The most interesting argument is too many Oppo parties squeeze into the wagon that irritates the most. Voters get very vexed seeing too many oppo members running about. And Ah Khaw hit raw nerve threatening paranoid voters that 0911 may not see PAP around , egging these not savvy majority silent voters to push back.
We suggest that let WP to work alone and the rest of small oppo parties form coalition, organise yourselves professionally and contest under one umbrella .
Tell you true, this is the best solution to contest the GE 2020 because you calm the majority voters down by having only a few oppo parties to contest. Silent majority do not attend rallies, they are not savvy, uninformed either they are rich or richer or very poor. They only rely on mass media which is controlled by PAP, now you see, this is a fatal problem. Breaking them up is even a gargantuan effort not enough also. Think about it.
As for WP, ground sentiment for WP MPs at the parliament must play a different role. Rather than asking questions, give humble suggestions and treat parliament as a discussion table. If PAP wants to raise GST, do not go against it but just suggest something nicely to oppose if think fit.
People say only Aljunied and hougang voters give you mandate, it is not wise to speak up vehemently on national interests for the whole sinkapore. I think this is a good suggestion because PAP MPs are voted into to speak up also . WP MPs should take care of their wards to gain more confidence back rather than talking about laws and rules in the parliament that don’t benefit your voters. This is a gutter politics, oppo MPs are voted to be TC managers, we have to face this truth and win hearts, only when the time comes , the good ones will prevail . People think confining your argument within your wards is better than arguing over ministers’ pay rise.
With due respect, the vote swing according to the ground sentiment is not about vote of confidence , it is about emotional payback to LKY and some of the goodies, and with the last straw (WP TC issue) that came to break the camel’s back.
It is not the end of world PAP winning a surreal victory , in fact, it is the beginning of nightmare for the last little emperor to work even harder to reciprocate for his so-called people to tangibly receive, and show all voters he is better than his father.
