Singapore moving towards a 2-party political system?

Is surely going to be PAP and WP. One day, WP will be Government and PAP and will be Opposition. It could be 2020 or 2025 earliest.

Will it be like the US and UK? 2 party system.

Democrat and Republican
Labour vs Conservative

In the UK the 2 party system works to check and debate properly. Not in Sg when PAP controls more that the public service.

So optimistic. Given the daftness of Sinkies, coalition government might be possible in 2020 but WP govt.... hmmm maybe 2052

How many times must I tell you this?

The rest of the opposition parties are wasting their time.

In UK, both the ruling and opposition party are strong. In Singapore, the ruling party will have everything and the opposition party will have nothing, not even leftover scraps. This is the system put in place by the Old Guards.

We are asiatics, not ang mo.

If WP continues to gain ground in the east and pap keeps adopting the strategy of deploying their ministers and potential office holders away from hotspots. This would only mean pap will be forced to consolidate their strength westward. It possible we might see a situation whereby pap controls the west and WP the east.

Of course this is a very optimistic assumption.

If 40% of voting population voted for the oppositions. 40% of the Parliamentary representives should be oppositions.

This is only right.

Then you'll need electoral reform, and shift away from GRCs, gerrymandering and 'first-past-the-post' system.

Don't expect things to change with the PAP in charge.

two part first past the post system is flawed. The best is the proportional representation as practised in scandinavia and germany. That means, fringe parties like the greens and minorities will get their voice in parliament because if they get 15% of the votes, they end up with 15% of the seats. and very difficult for big parties to get ore than 51% of the votes to control parliament an hence must ally themselves and make policies more broadly acceptable.

PAP 60% votes, 90% seats and Opposition 40% votes, 10% seats. the Opposition are clearly underrepresented in Parliament due to the flawed plurality electoral system made worse by the GRC system. the idea that our Parliament represents the collective will of the electorate is so skewed.
