Police warn public of scam involving 'Changi Airport' or 'Singapore Airlines' contests

SINGAPORE - Members of the public have been advised by the police to remain vigilant against a scam involving "Changi Airport" or "Singapore Airlines" contests.
The police said in a Facebook post on Thursday that conmen would call victims to inform them that they had won return air tickets to Japan or Paris in a contest organised by Changi Airport or Singapore Airlines.
In order to "process the winnings," victims would then be asked for their personal information, such as passport details.
Changi Airport Group (CAG) has since clarified that such calls are not authentic. Winners of contests organised by CAG will be notified via telephone and e-mail, followed by an official letter sent for their acknowledgement.
When in doubt, the public can call Changi Airport's customer hotline on 6595-6868 for verification.
The police are also urging members of the public not to disclose personal particulars such as name, NRIC number or residential address as they may be "used for criminal acts". If such calls are received, the public may lodge a police report via the Electronic Police Centre (ePC) at http://www.spf.gov.sg/epc.
Or they can do so at any Neighbourhood Police Centre or Post or dial 999 for urgent police assistance.
The police have also urged members of the public to come forward if they have any information relating to the above crime. They may contact the police on 1800-255-0000 or dial 999 for urgent police assistance.
