SINGAPORE - A manpower policy that advocates hiring "Singaporeans first" will not benefit the economy in the long term, said Senior Minister of State for Manpower Amy Khor in Parliament on Tuesday.

Such a policy might result in employers feeling "constrained and unable to hire the best person for the job", she added.

That could ultimately hurt Singaporeans, if companies' manpower needs are unmet and they eventually decide to move out of the country.

"We are in fact putting the interests of Singaporeans first when we say that we want to grow the economy and job opportunities. But we need to be practical about how we go about doing it," said Dr Khor."

Take 10 years from early 2000 not enough to grow economy, wait until when can finish growing? She got job don't have to wait, other people don't have jobs cannot wait 10 over more years. Singaporean already got hurt but she cannot see it.

The companies who want to hire foreigner but choose to move out nevermind, change the situation back to early 2000 is still better than the situation right now.

"SINGAPORE — Employers will have to advertise job vacancies on a new government jobs bank for at least 14 days before they apply to hire an Employment Pass (EP) holder, starting from Aug 1 next year.

The new rule, applicable to jobs paying up to S$12,000 a month, is aimed at making firms consider Singaporeans fairly for a job, said the Ministry of Manpower (MOM).

Acting Manpower Minister Tan Chuan-Jin said: “These changes are part of a broader effort to ensure that good jobs continue to be created for Singaporeans."
