While residents at Whampoa and Old Airport will have to put up with temporary closures of their respective food centres, Singaporeans in general will have to mourn the passing of Lavendar Food Centre later in 2014.

Once again, the PAPzi government has helped us to avoid being too tied to the past and old ways of doing things.

Mourn not the loss of the passing of the old
But celebrate the birthing of the new
Welcome the 10 million (6.9 million just won't do)
Discard those who cling to the past.

But regulars will soon have to find a new hang-out, as this food haunt near Singapore Casket is going to make way later this year for a new commercial building.

The food centre and next-door Eminent Plaza, both built in the 1980s, will be replaced by ARC 380, a 16-storey freehold development with more than 160 office and retail units, slated to be ready by 2018.

You think this has nothing to do with the Population White Paper? Okay then.

The only thing memorable about Lavender food square was the stingray and the proximity to Petain. Used to have a run down HC there too. After renovation, within a few years, became run down again! Buay ta han. But at least, you could get a decent massage by one of the few minahs working there and then wash down the experience with some good seafood.
