'In the Olympics contingent, there are 25 members, half of whom are new Singaporeans. Why do we need them? Make a simple calculation. The Chinese have 1.3 billion people. Singapore has a population of four million...If we want to win glory for Singapore and do well not only in sports but in many other areas, we cannot merely depend on the local-born. We need to attract talent from all over...Look at the Beijing Olympics. Tao Li, the swimmer, she's done very well. The women's table-tennis team...they have won an Olympic medal. We welcome foreigners so they can strengthen our team, and we can reduce our constraints. So let us welcome and let us encourage them.'

Why locals cannot make it ?, is pretty obvious, the school system, the social mindset (the making money, & more money), & National Service plus Reservist(NS HAD KILLED SINGAPORE), and who, started this all?..."daddy".

How can we be proud of winning an olympic silver medal, comprising of players, who in the first place, got their training & start in PRC?.

The last time, a silver medal was won 48 years in weight lifting, by a SINGAPOREAN.

Of course, we encourage them... :mad:

Which parents encourage their children to use sport as their bread and butter......

all parents either hope their children to become doctors, lawers...where go parents ask their kid to go play sports all day long

simple on the chinese flag there are five stars and on the american flag there are 52...so little pinky on whose flag do you want your stars to fly on???

That true ..locally born Singapore talents will not enter sports or showbiz as their careers.

We want our kids to go Uni & later become doctors, lawyers, accountants or engineers.
Who want to become sportsmen, actors or singers :confused:

So tell the foreign sport coaches, team managers or entertainment directors.
Not that Singapore have no talents ..
is only that our talents will not enter sectors like sports or entertainment (showbiz) as careers.

We are no that stupid to do that :biggrin:

only foreign clowns view all these sports & entertainment as an achievement.

Isn't it obvious by now..FTs are better in some things..and Sinkies cannot hope to challenge !

The women's table tennis and swimming has been a revelation. No Sinkie can come close.

Not easy being a sports man. Train, train and train, Can be stressful. Not many Singaporeans are good in sport. Too bad we had to import then. :(

singaporean are not lousy at sport but they are realistic to know that sports does not pay...sure people like those chinese whores are paid to play full time they live eat and shit ping pong...what then after that...with the money make they can anytime pack up and balik kampung..singaporeans? where can you go...look at fandi he is just one good example...where are his money now?

Somebody said in this forum that if they are successful, the sports person can expect to make $250,000 per year. That sounds like good money.

but S League if not wrong they have a cap on their salary...only those considered star players earn much more....the average pay if i am not wrong for a normal player is only S$2,500.00....and the thing is the life span of a player is very short....the most they have is perhaps 10 to 15 years max....and worse what happens if they suffered a career threatening injury then have to retire early...not many sportsmen are actually smart businessmen who knows how to make good use of their income earned during their prime....just ask Fandi Ahmad he should know...

1) Housework, we need foreign maids
2) Construction, we need foreign workers
3) Factory oso foreign workers
4) Not enough babies, we oso get foreign mothers. Including PDMM.
5) Bankers oso hire so many angmoh.
6) Geylang oso full of foreign FLs

Wat can we do??? Apart from complaining, we are useless in everything.

It's not easy being an engineer, accountant, lawyer or doctor too.

The problem is the sinkapore system which focusses solely on the practical and pragmatic aspects of life.

There are many talented young athletes in school too. But through parental pressure or otherwise, they will give up sports and get a "useful" degree instead.

That's why sinkapore has to import 2nd/3rd rate sportspeople from PRC. These foreigners have been groomed since young and received specialised training... but their standards still fall short of making the international cut and are released. SSC snaps them up like gu lan on bargain.

The sinkapore sports school has been trying to emulate the programs of other countries... But where are the results ...?
