The lukewarm response to the one-off vouchers that are meant to help the poor cope with fare hikes could be due to the amount offered and hassle in applying for them, MPs and help agencies told The Straits Times.
In Parliament on Monday, it was revealed that just over half of the 200,000 public transport vouchers available for needy residents to offset the fare increase in 2011 were taken up.

(3) Singapore is a major per capita carbon polluter, amongst others responsible for the problems linked to global warming: "Of the major, non oil economies, Singapore takes the biscuit for Mr Global Dirty, with 36.6 tonnes per person, followed by Luxembourg (21.7t), Australia (18.8t) and US (16.1t)" ['Carbon emissions per person, by country etc – here’s the latest data (and it doesn’t look good)' (Oxfam, 29June2012)]- cycling can help reduce greenhouse gas emissions from motor vehicle use.

Actually, more bus lanes (besides some cycling paths is good) pro cyclist can use bus lanes cos they are quite skillful and fast (bus driver !UST have good judgement too n helmet is MUST), not so pro ones go by park connectors along big longkang etc.

Whichever the choice, both are healthy and environmentally friendly.

More bus lanes also means improved bus public transport system and more faith in govt to run economy. Otherwise, with a high Gini coefficient and ballooning waistlines, I am not surprised at all that the productivity of the average SG worker is falling.

Singaporeans need to love and feel in touch with the environment, otherwise, Singaporeans are only tourist in their own country...

more precisely the Netherlands bike lanes, not the London bike lanes, that blue one will turn you into pancakes by huge construction trucks.

the bicycle path in red is seperate from the road for cars. The bicycle path intersect the car by traffic lights.

that was the old one build in the 80's in the 21's century, the Netherlands is putting up floating roundabout so the bicycle lanes does not intersect with the car lane.

Another good model to follow will be Taiwan.

Bike lanes every where in Taipei. At of peak hours, you can take your bike into their MRT.

At almost all MRT stations, you have automated bike kiosk with first half hour bike use free, and very cheap every half hour after that.
And you can take from any kiosk to return at any kiosk.

The Dutch White Plan was far too idealistic and was more of a joke. That was not thought through and did not account for the cupidity of humans, even in Holland.
I was in Amsterdamn often enough, and never did see their white bikes. One might as well say Ford Model T is like a Ferrari and Ferrari is nothing but a copy of Ford Model T.

All over the world, many countries are implementing very cheap bikes for use by public and with nominal fees.

Taipei's traffic too congested with bikes. Makes car driving more hazardous than traffic with less bikes.
