Man jailed 10 months for molesting 12-year-old girl on bus

SINGAPORE: A cleaner was on Wednesday jailed 10 months for using criminal force to molest a 12-year-old girl on a bus.
In late July, Lim Wai Sin, who is mildly mentally retarded, chose to sit next to a student when he boarded the bus even though there were many empty seats.
A passenger saw Lim lean on the victim even though the bus was not turning a bend.
Sensing something was amiss, the passenger stood in front of the victim's seat to observe further.
The witness, Mr Mohd Nordin Abdul Muthalif, then saw that Lim had used his right elbow to rub against the victim's ribcage.
To avoid contact, the victim had to keep changing her position so she fidgeted in the seat.
Mr Mohd Nordin then asked the girl if she was alright and she told the 38-year-old that she was molested.
But the court took into account that Lim suffers from paraphilia, a disorder where a person has urges and fantasies of touching and having sex with young girls.
Lim, who has committed a similar offence previously, is also diagnosed with major depression.
For using criminal force to outrage the modesty of the girl, Lim could have been jailed up to five years, fined and caned. - CNA/xq
