Penalty for spitting at someone in public.

I was just watching the video of a badly behaved Chinese man (in blue top n jeans) spitting at woman (green dress) and harassins another woman (blue blouse) at https://www.facebook.com/photo.php?v=10151679611990248
or 'Angry man spits at woman at Woodlands bus interchange'

Me thinks that assault on a person's dignity should be as serious as outrage of modesty. Thus, such spitting cases should attract jail, fines and even caning for extreme or recalcitrant cases. However, for simple cases, perhaps compensating the victim a significant amount of compensation (made public
in addition to a public apology might suffice for such arising from a momentary lack of self control (as is the current case for molest cases).

BTW, I might have rearranged the blue man's face had he tried to do the same to me, sans footage. Anyhow, thanks to footage, I hope the blue guy does get to spend some time in IMH undergoing medical examination and even some time in Changi Chalet, reflecting on the crimes he commuted just over a bus ride to begin with.

The man should be dealt with appropriately. This is not one time but multiple times, not one woman but two

Spitting on somebody equals to degrading them.
It is also a health hazard as the mat ( not chinese man) may carry bacteria in his saliva like hepatitis, cold sores and meningitis.

That guy should be given a stiff sentence of at least 7 years + strokes of the rotan + compensation to the 2 ladies.

What happened?

The women were wrong. Are you fellas daft? Never ever call another person "stupid" in the public, or you deserves what you get.

Outrage of modest my fucking foot.

BTW, market rate (13June2013) for spitting at somebody is $10k with a mitigation of remorse 'Briton fined S$10,000 for spitting on police officer'

Singapore convictions, double standards depending on victim occupation or nationality

lianbeng says: nobody dared to whack him!
Singapore convictions, double standards depending on victim occupation or nationality how can?

Spit at Singapore police =$10,000 fine +/- custodial sentence 'Briton fined S$10,000 for spitting on police officer' . Spit at Malaysian ladies = public nuisance charge and Max $1,000 fine only.
(See 'Man caught on video spitting at woman at bus interchange arrested.' "The 47-year-old will be charged with committing a public nuisance, said the police in a statement yesterday. The maximum punishment for this offence is a S$1,000 fine."

Is justice blind? How come penalties are so different and how can?

So insult to a public servant raises the spectre of punishment >10 times the severity of an 'ordinary crime'?

As previously mentioned, spitting in spite if provable and beyond the ambit of sufficient/ reasonable provocation (as unprovoked as it seems in the Woodlands interchange bus 950 case ) should yield punishment similar to theft since whilst intangible, it still amounts to a theft of another's dignity. The crime of theft of either/ both Malaysians ladies' dignity at Woodlands interchange should not go unpunished (assumed Malaysian ladies since they were taking JB bound bus at 9plus pm from Woodlands bus interchange).

Singapore should NOT be a police state. Spitting out of unwarranted spite is still spitting out of spite regardless of the target. Just as the Tiger airlines AngMo magazine editor was fined $10k and almost received a custodial sentence, the crazy man in blue shouldn't be punished any less.
