Many people have no objection to Wijey being gay. They r unhappy becos he kept it private while running for the previous election and only came out as a gay activist when he was "exposed". Having an agenda as a gay activist is OK, but he should hv been open about it to the voters, letting them decide whether it was a plus or minus for him.
You are confused. The people who don't care about whether or not he's gay will not also care whether he hides it from them, because they know that it affects absolutely nothing. They will understand why he wants to keep it a secret. And the reason why he wants to keep it a secret are the other people - those who think that it's important, that it means that he's immoral.
It's almost never a plus for a politician to be gay. The reaction is either neutral or negative. Maybe the gay people will be more inclined to vote him in, but there are relatively few gay people in this world.
Also, I had almost forgotten about this thread, but when you put this "revelation" side by side with his recent resignation from SDP and politics, something becomes clear pretty quickly. I have a theory that he decided to come out just to see whether or not people were going to accept him. He must obviously have concluded from peoples' reactions that being gay makes you unelectible.
