SINGAPORE - A 24-year-old Singaporean man working in New York is now critically injured, after a getaway-car driven by a robber knocked him down, while trying to evade capture from the police.

Al-Matin Mohamed was on his bicycle when the fleeing suspect, who was driving against traffic for five blocks, plowed into him before finally crashing the car.

The impact caused Mohamed to be flung to the sidewalk.

According to an article by the New York Daily News, the incident occurred when two robbers assaulted a 27-year-old man outside Pennsylvania Station, a major railway hub in New York City.

Two Metropolitan Transportation Authority (MTA) police officers gave chase, resulting in the ensuing pursuit. One of the robbers ran to a car parked near the scene of robbery and accelerated as the police approached, running over one of the police officer's foot in the process.

The fleeing suspect then drove against the traffic for five blocks, before he ran over Mohamed.

The New York Daily News article stated that Mohamed is currently being treated for head trauma, two broken legs and other injures at the Bellevue Hospital Center.

No arrests have been made so far, and the New York police is still on the hunt for the suspect after he abandoned the vehicle and fled.

Mohamed is believed to be working as a pastry chef at Le Bernardin, a Michelin Guide three star French Seafood Restaurant in Midtown Manhattan, New York City for a one-month stint.

He was previously studying at Le Cordon Bleu Basic Patisserie in Sydney, Australia after completing his National Service as a Guards Officer, where he was awarded the Sword-of Merit for his commissioning batch.

Mohamed, known to his friends as 'Matin' was the football captain at Anglo-Chinese Junior College.

AsiaOne understands that some of his family members are flying to New York on Sunday night.

Good for him for seeking out his dreams of being a chef. Just bad luck being at the wrong place at the wrong time.

Guys cut him some slack. He He seemed to have done well in NS and for his school. He is also gungho to pursue something that is off the beaten track. He is on attachment to the Michelin star restaurant from the Corden Bleu Cooking school. The school is prestigious and restaurants all over the world will readily accept a student of the school.

Lets hope that he makes it. I heard that it does not look good.
