Tanah Lot is located about 12 kilometers from Tabanan City and 20 kilometers from Denpasar. The area comprises a magnificient and magical mixture of natural beauty and man-made moument. Here lies an idyllic white sand beach with crashing waves, complemented by a small yet majestic temple. This temple, known as Pura Tanah Lot, juts out to the sea on a rocky background. Tanah Lot attracts throngs of both locals and tourists daily. Most come here longing to catch a glimpse of the romantic Tanah Lot sunset. This is perhaps the most sacred temple in Bali.Tourism has destroyed much of its privacy and isolation...and also the sanctity of the holy grounds where the gods live.

Tanah Lot is mystic and one cannot but wonders with awe how humans could build such a place where the high tide can submerge the whole temple which reappears once more with the ebb of the tide - truly remarkable human endeavour.A world treasure worthy of preservation and emulation.God lives in the landmarks that humans created.

another great place to visit in Bali - BEDUGUL - Taman Ayu or Royal Family Temple

Taman Ayun, means beautiful garden, located in the village of Mengwi, 18km west of Denpasar, is indeed one of Bali’s most picturesque temples. The King of Mengwi, I Gusti Agung Anom, built this stately proportioned courtyards and large surrounding moat in the year 1634. Containing both the Royal family ancestral shrines and the strayed MERU shrines to the major deities, Taman Ayun became the main temple for the ancient Kingdom of Mengwi.

In Balinese mythology, it is said that the gods created Bali to be special-extraordinary. Its purpose is to be a shrine, housing all the deities and the land is sacred. It is to provide a refuge and a hermitage to people on the spiritual path. This is an island where god and goddesses statues are found in great abundance. They are found almost everywhere from the road junction of a road to shops, paddy fields, hotels and motels. You also cannot help noticing the locals offering their prayers almost every other hour as well.We were overwhelmed by the sacredness of the whole island.

The island appears to be covered by a mystic and silent shroud when the sun sets.We were told to walk gingerly and respectfully and with great mindfulness as every part of the island is sacred to the gods and spirits. The majority of the Balinese are devout Hindus - friendly, courteous and hospitable as they go about their daily lives in a simple and peaceful manner. This is a place where gods and spirits meet human beings in a friendly and harmless way.Our stay in Bali was a very memorable one....

Kuta beach is simply awesome...

Bought a few quality wood carvings before in Bali found the quality to be very good compared to the ones I saw in Thailand. Those who like wood carving Bali is a place worth to have a look. Remember to bargain, don't be shy.

Spoke to a couple who went for a long-awaited holiday together in Bali (they've been so busy at work, and have been putting off going for a vacation for years!), Husband and wife both complained that Bali didn't turn out to be that relaxing vacation they yearned for - both said that it was over commercialised and crowded with tourists, bars, restaurants, and shops! I suppose there aren't many places left in the world that is unspoilt and untouched by capitalism.

Cheers!

the couple most likely hang around too much in the kuta area and go on tours in buses loaded with other likeminded novice tourists.

for anyone going to bali for the first time, i would recommend staying at a higher end hotel away from the crowd near the bluffs and beach. if shopping and dining are paramount which shouldn't be the case unless these are sinkie city slickers, frogs in well, or urban tortoises, then the inna hotel next to the beach at kuta has the best value. request for a detach room (bungalow) away from the main hotel as these bungalows are right next to the beach separated with a low wall. book the driver and suv from the hotel for day trips up and down several routes on bali. if there's a need to stay on the north side of the island for a night, do it. 3 day trips on different round trip routes should cover almost all of bali. can ask driver to stop anywhere for food, photos and fornication. shiok!

Been going there several times, and will always like to go to Bali. It's world's heaven. The weather, the scenery, the people. All of them are just great.
