Mr Baucus said K Shanmugam, Singapore’s Foreign Minister, whom he met during his visit to Washington this week, had offered to share “all evidence” in the case with the FBI.

Mr Baucus said: “This is a significant step forward and I appreciate the Minister’s time and attention to Shane’s case; now we have to keep the pressure on to ensure that commitment is fulfilled. The proof is in the pudding.”

Todd’s parents, who spent much of last week lobbying members of Congress about the case, are not convinced their son took his own life, however, and have been unhappy with the Singapore police investigation.

They believe the police too quickly considered their son’s death a suicide.

The case has been an irritant for Mr Shanmugam on his trip to Washington, which comes ahead of a planned visit to the US by the Singapore Prime Minister in coming weeks.

The Singapore government maintains the police have handled the case properly and that Todds’s death will be the subject of an open coronial inquiry in accordance with the city-state’s laws.

Singapore has not yet responded to Mr Baucus and Mr Tester’s statement

Shamu doesn't resolve this before LHL visits America, LHL will have a hard time and get nothing done.

Full damage control in play. The Chinese will be watching. At some point, the PAP will have to choose between USA and China. Two-timings just won't work with two elephants in the room.
