Another lawsuit coming for MRT...

0199b417.jpg

A 28-year-old woman fell into gap in an escalator being serviced at Tanah Merah MRT Station last Monday.

Miss Azlin Amran was stuck in the waist-deep pit for almost half an hour as Singapore Civil Defence Force rescuers worked quickly to free her.

The unemployed woman, who was later rushed to hospital and sent to the intensive care unit, suffered injuries including a punctured lung, a fractured pelvis and spinal injuries. said her mother.

SMRT told The New Paper that a barrier had been put up at the entrance of the escalator that was being serviced.

But Miss Azlin had told her mother, Madam Azizah Mohd Lajis, 52, that there were no barriers at the escalator that evening.

Read the full report in The New Paper on Monday (Feb 04).

Mutual contradiction... one of them is lying... I wonder who?

This is negligence of the highest order on the part of SMRT.

Perhaps the mechanics servicing the escalator are FTs who are not used to the same safety standards in Singapore.

very difficult to believe there were no barriers. anyway, as she is unemployed, i would think someone will quickly compensate her for the trouble. as they say in malay'"durian runtoh".

This is a straight forward case ....

All you need to do is to review the station's CCTV. All exits at MRT stations are covered by CCTVs!

SMRT should retrieve the respective video to show once and for all who is telling the truth!

You are spot on. She must have been chatting with friends via LINE.

Why is MOM HSE investigation?

So silent, not even a press release to announce preliminary findings? Oh , forgot, SMRT is acrony outfit.

There totally no excuse even if barriers were installed. It means barriers were not foolproof, risk analysis was not carried out.

Purpose of risk anslysis is to ensure idiots, blind users, dumb users, deaf users, suicidal user, everyone without exception cannot breach their barrier systems.

Purely mgmt fault. Paralysed while still so young, you think money can compensate?. CB, fucked up organisation.

Simply cannot wake up even with the spotlight on them. Just close down the company better.

Yah see alot in mrt now a days. Eyes to the screen don't see where they are going and when they bang into someone expect people to say sorry to them as if they got the right of way n people should look out for them.

Always has this phobia in my mind when using escalators:

If one is to fall through the steps and into the moving stuff inside the escalator, will he/she be ground into mince meat?

Any auto stop sensor should something fell inside?

you are an idiot. who in a sane mind would want the following injuries to be inflicted on themselves?

The unemployed woman, who was later rushed to hospital and sent to the intensive care unit, suffered injuries including a punctured lung, a fractured pelvis and spinal injuries. said her mother.

Re: woman falls waist deep in gap in escalator at mrt station

3 points i dont understand:
1) surely smrt would have seen the footage before concluding to the press" barrier had been put up at the entrance of the escalator that was being serviced" if not they will have to swallow their own words
2) let say 20 commuters all alight at the same platform, how come she is the only 1 in the trap, how about the other 19 ?did they saw the barrier and use the lift/stairs instead?
3)if there IS a barrier, how did she managed she go beyond that? fly over?

could if be..yes inital a barrier was there.then 1 of the techinian need to go toilet or take tool, so he partial remove the barrier. the lady eyes busy glue to her smart phone..and enter the trap?
