Good Samaritans in a Chinese city flocked to a noodle restaurant not because of its tasty food but because of an online post pleading for help from its cancer-stricken owner.

42-year-old Li Gang in Henan’s capital city Zhengzhou said in the post titled “A humble plea from a father: I need your help”:

"I need your help. I am upset about being recently diagnosed with Osteosarcoma. I hope that those of you who live in the west side of the city can visit my noodle restaurant when you eat out. Thus my wife can earn more money. We have a 3-year-old girl and we are having a hard time. I thank you all.”

20 kinds of serious illnesses, including lung cancer and gastric cancer, are covered by China’s state healthcare and medical assistance. Unfortunately, Osteosarcoma, a type of bone cancer, is not on the list.

Wife Jing Xiaomin said that she got many customers lately, and a lot of them told her to keep the change. Some even left up to 1,000 yuan on the table. She has tried to get the names and contact methods of those kind people in the hope she can pay them back after her husband is cured.

Dr. Wang Shunli from the Zhengzhou Orthopedics Hospital said: “the cancerous tumor started in Li’s hipbone and it’s big enough to threaten his life.”

Li needs 100,000 yuan for a life-saving surgery and another 100,000 yuan for the chemotherapy that comes after it. He spent most of his savings on his daughter when she fell sick. Donations from the strangers have already passed 10,000 yuan.

He is considering about selling the restaurant but this means his family may lose its sole source of income.
