Street Example - Using Search Group for Locations and Categories Searches

In this example, we have a collection of over hundreds of shops, residential houses and commercial buildings covering an area that includes some main streets and a number of small lanes. Each of these are identified with an unique address and a few lines in the category block that describes the unit.

The purpose in this setup is to provide the public access to businesses and resident in and around the vicinity by placing a couple of noticeboards in prominent places. At each of these noticeboards depending on the size and orientation, you can tailor your design accordingly. This example, we are using a full HD touch screen of 1920x1080, however we are only using 1278x1080, leaving the rest for displaying other information.

Here is the screen configuration.

To do the above, create a new Noticeboard project and add a group, change the type to Search.

- Point the folder to your collections.
- Define the search results area, which is the group rectangle region.
- Define a display region, for scheduling and displaying the content of the search results.

Next we added 3 Windows.

1. A Fixed Window for displaying a navigation diagram for location searches.
2. A Button Window for navigating your locations through a hierarchy of buttons.
3. A Button Window for performing your categories search.

Note: The result of a search is the combination of a location and the selected category.

To launch the navigation diagram, we created an icon on the screen which points to the navigation diagram in the library, in the Touch options, we also entered a Search value "Geylang". When click, it will conduct a search of all addresses in the collection with this value before launching the navigation diagram.

The navigation diagram is a single Set which contains boxes. Each of these boxes is assigned with a Search value.

Another alternative of conducting an address search is using buttons. Here, we have constructed a hierarchy of search buttons placed in several libraries. Instead of pointing to a single ID in a library, it points to a library which contains all buttons for that hierarchy.

For Category searches, the concept is similar except the Window Search type is "Category".

Here's the sample.

Download Street.rar and unzip to C:\ drive, otherwise just change the folder in the Street.ntb to point to where you unzip to. It contains the main project file and the necessary libraries.

The following are the collection of ntbs, you can download anyone or all to provides you the data and see it's implementation.

Lower.rar - 31 MB
Lorong.rar - 56 MB
SimsAvenue.rar - 66 MB
Upper.rar - 165 MB

Unzip these to ...Vicinity\Geylang
