Philippines 1-0 Singapore - Azkals victorious against Lions again

Philippines achieved yet another milestone in their footballing history as they recorded their first ever back-to-back win against a South East Asian opponent.

Substitute Marwin Angeles scored the only goal of the game ten minutes into the second-half as Singapore were not able to break down a resolute Ed Sacapano in goal for the home side.

Singapore started on the offensive from the go as Khairul Amri did well to break away from his marker but his shot was well-saved by Philippines Army FC custodian Sacapano.

Philippines deployed five men across the field with Jason De Jong partnering well with Chris Greatwich supplying the needed ammunition to Global FC striker, Denis Wolf.

Lions goalkeeper Hyrulnizam Juma’at was tested several times and he kept his side in the game five minutes before the break as he went down well to save a low-driven shot from Wolf.

Singapore had far better chances on goal than their opponent but they were met with an in-from Sacapano for the home side.

Midway through the half, from a freekick, Qiu Li sent a thunderous shot which was palmed away by Sacapano.

In the second minute of injury time, Singapore were awarded a penalty as Jeffrey Christiaens was adjudged to have brought down Khairul Amri in the box.

The decision was met with boos all around the stadium as the Azkals fans made known their feelings towards the referee.

The jeers soon turned into a boisterous cheer for their national team as Sacapano brilliantly dived to the bottom right corner and saved Shi Jiayi's attempt from the spot.

In the second-half, Singapore brought on Tampines Rovers striker Aleksandar Duric in place of Khairul Amri while James and Phil Younghusband joined Marwin on the pitch for the host as both teams added firepower upfront.

The change yielded instant result for coach Michael Weiss as his charges pressed on the counter attack pedal and took the lead through Marwin Angeles, thanks to an assist from Phil Younghusband.

Sacapano once again came to the rescue as he pulled off a stupendous one-handed save in the 73rd minute as he pushed away Shahdan Sulaiman's freekick from 25 yards out.

Philippines could have added a few more goals if not for the brilliance of Hyrulnizam in goal as he denied Wolf, Phil and Marwin in the last ten minutes.

Singapore will next play Pakistan at Jurong West Stadium on Monday, November 19.

How in the world are we going to win games if a 42 year old guy already past his 'use-by ' date is still one of our main players. Its a joke our national team. Soon we will even lose to some schoolgirl teams if they come from overseas to play friendlies.

Problem is, the young singkies just are as good as this 42 year old.
