SINGAPORE - His wife had told him that she was at home.

But when Ng Cheong Khoon, 58, went to gamble at the Resorts World Sentosa (RWS) casino at around 1am on April 20, he found her there for exactly the same reason.

Angry that she had lied to him, Ng confronted her and they got into an argument.

Mr Tan Seong Wee, 36, a senior security supervisor, approached the pair to investigate.

But instead of cooperating, Ng told Mr Tan to "mind his own business".

Ng then shouted at Mr Tan and punched him several times on his head, cheek and abdomen.

The assault only stopped when Mr Tan's colleagues rushed in to separate them.

Mr Tan was treated at Alexandra Hospital for his injuries, which included bruises and scratches.

Ng pleaded guilty in court to one count of voluntarily causing hurt and was fined $1,200 yesterday.

He could have been jailed up to two years and fined up to $5,000.

Suspected bookmakers

In a separate incident, a man and a woman were charged in court yesterday with acting as bookmakers at RWS. It is not known if they were working together.

Ong Ah Ter, 54, and Teo Eng Luan, 44, face seven charges in total for their alleged offences at the casino's Orchid Club.

The club is reserved for Singaporeans and permanent residents.

Ong faces five charges. He allegedly committed the offence between June and August.

Teo, who faces two charges, allegedly committed the offences in June and July.

They will be back in court on Nov 8.

If convicted of acting as bookmakers inside the casino, they can each be jailed up to five years and fined between $20,000 and $200,000 for each charge.
