The Singapore Police Force (SPF) has signed a memorandum of understanding (MOU) with the Australian Federal Police (AFP) to fight transnational crime, SPF said on Thursday.

The MOU was signed by SPF Commissioner of Police Ng Joo Hee and AFP Commissioner Tony Negus on Oct 11 at the Parliament House in Canberra, Australia.

Prime Minister Lee Hsien Loong and Australia's Prime Minister Julia Gillard were present to witness the signing.

With the MOU, both forces will commit to the deepening of cooperation in key areas such as capacity building, information sharing and training.

Commissioner Ng said that strong cooperation is required to fight terrorism, cybercrime and other transnational crimes.

"The MOU signifies the common resolve of both our organisations to strengthen our bilateral ties and working relationship to fight crime and terrorism globally," he added.
