Police arrest man suspected of being involved in hit-and-run accident
SINGAPORE: A 33-year-old man has been arrested by Traffic Police on suspicion of being involved in a hit-and-run accident.
The arrest was made within three hours of the incident.
Two 12-year-old boys were hit while crossing a pedestrian crossing along Tampines Avenue 7 at about 10.10am on Sunday.
The boys suffered injuries and were sent to KK Women's and Children's Hospital.
The driver had apparently stopped his car and brought the boys to the roadside after the accident.
But he drove off from the scene before the ambulance or police arrived and did not provide his particulars to the victims.
Two members of the public gave information to the Traffic Police.
Upon investigation, the man was arrested at his home at Tampines.
Investigations revealed that the man was driving whilst under disqualification.
He was also arrested for driving without insurance coverage, dangerous driving, as well as failing to stop and provide particulars, and failing to render aid to the injured parties.
If convicted, he could be fined up to S$3,000 or jailed up to 12 months.
The Traffic Police has stressed that motorists must stop to render assistance when they are involved in accidents as this could make a difference between life and death.
