In the countdown to what could turn out to be the summer transfer saga Arsenal chief executive Ivan Gazidis has revealed that the club and Robin van Persie, the Dutch forward, will be concentrating on the Euro 2012 finals. Van Persie, who scored 30 league goals last season remains a Manchester City target and the hierarchy at the Emirates are desperate to ensure Van Persie doesn't follow in the footsteps of Samir Nasri, who joined City last year.

“Robin sat down with us at the end of the season and we had a good discussion,” Gazidis said. “What we agreed at that meeting was that we would keep all the discussions we had over the summer to ourselves and make announcements when it is the right time.

Rumours have suggested that Cahill is set to be offered a contract worth up to £2.5m for one season.
