DPM Teo wants Hougang residents to have the "best of both worlds"

BEIJING - Hougang residents can get the 'best of both worlds' if they vote in the People's Action Party (PAP), suggested Deputy Prime Minister Teo Chee Hean, as they will get two MPs for the price of one.

Turning an argument much touted by the opposition against it, he said they would be served by both the PAP's man and Workers' Party (WP) chief Low Thia Khiang, Hougang's former MP of 20 years.

For years, opposition politicians have urged residents to vote them in, saying they would get 'two MPs', as the PAP's candidates usually stayed on in the constituencies as grassroots advisers.

Now, Mr Teo was saying that Hougang's 23,368 voters can do the same when they go to the polls on May 26.


All u ungrateful Hougang residents, this is your last chance to redeem yourselves. Vote wisely!

Rubbish. Unlike PAP losing candidates, if oppo loses, he has no access to the GRO, other resources and help from government departments, how is he to help the residents?

To get the best of both worlds, Hougang residents should vote Mr Png into Parliament and at the same time continue to enjoy the so called freebies being given by Desmond and the PAP..

Give your vote to WP and you can also continue to eat the PAP's free temple porridge.. The good people of Hougang deserved to enjoy the best of both worlds for their sterling service to the nation for the past 21 years..

Stopping short of asking them to repent during GE 2011, MM Lee even alleged Hougang flat values are lower compared to that of similar flats in neighbouring areas because they belong to an opposition ward. "If you have the wrong government, your property prices go right down. Ask why in Hougang the property prices are not as high as their neighbours," he sneered.

Hougang is living proof that Singaporeans can carry on without the presence of the bully boys. Its 37,407 residents go to work, raise children, take care of their elders and serve NS, all without having to bow and scrape to the white attired. Sure they had to walk the extra kilometer, heads held high, after their wet market was bulldozed to the ground, but their families need not starve. Philosopher Friedrich Nietzsche was right when he said what doesn’t kill you makes you stronger.

DPM Teo insulted the 243,368 voters there when he suggested that Hougang could have "two MPs for the price of one". That's not even original, a plagiarism of Low Thia Khiang's brilliant strategy for securing the Aljunied beachhead. Perhaps Teo has already seen the future, when the reversal of fortunes finally come about, and top dog becomes real underdog. Forget what they are blabbering on about a "local contest". This by-election is a watershed opportunity to send them a national message. A nation is demanding to have its identity back, cleansed of the dilutants eroding our original stake holding.

If I did not remember wrongly, MM Lee said if Mah Bow Tan were to be voted out, all property prices will drop, or something to that effect.

Now that MBT was replaced, did the property price plummeted ?

MM Lee credibility ? come again what's that ?

If PAP wins Hougang, will it become part of a GRC in 2016 since it is so damed difficult for PAP to win back Hougang ?

I would rather have a WP MP with free porridge and other stuff from PAP than coming under a GRC. So much freebies from PAP who wanted Hougang so badly all these years! Afterall, upgrading cannot be a carrot anymore as most that need to be upgraded is either done/or being done.

And why is DPM Teo re-positioning it as a candidate-to-candidate BE instead of party-to-party election ? Bcos PAP is already govt and the choice of Hougang voters should be to send in more opposition as the good things had been seen after the watershed GE result recently! A truly check-and-balance effect!

HG BE is NOT a local election. HG voters should hold PAP to account for national issues which are taking too long to be resolved after the promises of the GE2011. HG voters must ask the PAP:

1. why it took a HG resident to bring the matter to court before the PM decides to call the BE

2. to account for the inconsistencies of judgment and reasons given for not holding past BEs

3. why the COE scheme has not solved congestion on the roads

4. why there is still no news of the SCDF/CNB chiefs' sex case

5. why the continued partisanship in the PA and HDB

6. why there are so many fucking new Indians?

DPM Teo, very easy to take back Hougang.....all you need to do is to import 25,000 new citizens into Hougang.

He should also explain the answered that Ah Long gave to a student living in HG, at NUS forum about the consequences for not voting for pappy Proti Prata.

I concur! Hougang Lang sibeh CAN!

Perhaps he thinks that Singaporeans got the best of both worlds when a by election was held
in Marine Parade many years ago, to give the then PM his "mandate" and to introuduce his goodself
to the cabinet.
Oh, maybe that's what Woody meant by Swiss standard of living after all.
