BINTAN - Four friends, Singaporeans who had spent the last month preaching Islam in mosques in Bintan, decided to cap their stay with a beach outing there.
They went to the Indonesian island's Trikora beach at 8am last Saturday (9am Singapore time), attracted by its huge waves.
But those waves were also what drowned two of the three men who ventured into them, dragging them out to sea and pulling them under.
Mr Muhammad Ridwan, 23, was the only one who made it back alive. The maintenance and odd-job worker said: 'Because we never get to see such big waves in Singapore, we were very enthusiastic.'
