SINGAPORE - A good-looking beggar has been approaching residents in Bedok Reservoir for money, and can earn up to $50 within half a day, reported the Shin Min Daily News.

A reader who contributed the story says the beggar, estimated to be in his 30s, looks young and able-bodied.

He has tattoos on his arms and is often seen wearing a cap. His relatively good looks has also earned himself the moniker, "handsome".

One resident, Mr Wei, 31, said he gave the man $3 after he claimed to have lost his wallet and needed to take a bus home.

When interviewed, a Madam Peh said she has seen the man exchanging his small notes for a larger $50 note, and believes he can earn $50 within half a day.

But many residents are wary of giving him money.

One resident said he turned aggressive and threatened her with his fist after she refused to give him money and called him "crazy".

A caller to the Chinese paper claims to have met this mysterious beggar, whom he knows as "Ah Qing", in prison.

According to the caller, Ah Qing was a frequent "guest" in jail because of his glue-sniffing habit.

The caller also recalled that Ah Qing came from a relatively well-to-do family, who own a bakery wholesale business.

But he does not know why Ah Qing has to resort to begging on the streets.

According to Shin Min, Ah Qing has been spotted around Bedok for the past year, and appears to be educated as he speaks fluent English.

Reminds me of Leon Lai's character as Liu Yubai ( 劉郁白) in the movie, Bodyguards and Assassins - 十月围城.
