Phelps Edges Bonus Race With Eight Golds to Singapore's Silver

Very apt article by Bloomberg. PAP should just pay Michael Phelps S$8m to swim for Singapore. After all, we have plenty of CPF money. --------------------- Phelps Edges Bonus Race With Eight Golds to Singapore's Silver By Grant Clark Aug. 20 (Bloomberg) -- When it comes to Olympic...

    Plight of the taxi drivers

Rebate of S$100/month is meaningless when the taxi rental is at least S$90/day or S$2700/month. The rental charged is really profiteering when one can get a car by paying around S$1000+/month, including bank loan service, insurances, road taxes, etc. IMO, renting taxis in Singapore is one of...

NO more mee siam mai hum fiasco!

PM Lee himself must be reading this forum. That’s why he decided to delay his English speech telecast to deny us of the eagerly awaited Mee Siam Mai Hum Episode II.

graduates give middle finger to alma mater

I got a similar call some time ago from a young lady who claimed to be a first year student. I asked why should I support a university that is giving free scholarships to foreigners instead of helping Singaporeans; and these foreigners will be taking away jobs from Singaporeans, including hers...

My baby and I nearly died tonight

Civilians driving cars and scolding each other = civil case. Police need not be involved. Low crime doesn’t mean no crime. It just means they are reclassified.

Mindeaf DEAF to NS Deferment Plea

The NS deferment system is a joke. Government scholars are on auto deferment scheme while the rest of Singaporean males literally have to beg Mindef for it. Obviously this is selective application of the law and smacks of elitism.

Sg Property Price Poise to FALL HEAVILY!

No offence, but your spin is getting stale. These lines were sprouted by property agents for a long time and I presume you are probably either one or someone with some residential properties to sell. I will rebut your points accordingly and let’s have a healthy debate on this topic. F1 and IRs...

Sg Property Price Poise to FALL HEAVILY!

The writer has most likely overestimated Singapore property’s affordability. New HDB units under the DBSS scheme are priced average S$500 psf or S$600k for 1200 sqf. With a house income cap of S$8k/month or S$96k/year, it would imply a price/income multiple of some 6x. I do not subscribe the...

LKY: Without PAP Singapore is Finished!

I think "your fathers and sons will become coolies" sounds better. Reminiscent of the olden days. Soon Singapore will become a country of maids and coolies. :D

LKY: Without PAP Singapore is Finished!

He forgot his famous phrase - “Vote in the opposition and your mothers and sisters will become maids”.

'If I don't collect cans, I will not have food'

Excellent point. Just like NDP - no bloody purpose except to stroke the ego of some PAP ball carriers. Why the Singapore flag? Just get the students to form the circle-lightning party logo instead. Parents should speak out against these activities and stop their kids from participating.

SAF regular jobless sleep on the streets

I fully concur. He should have gone for retraining as recommended by a certain eminent Minister. Without that, it is certainly his fault that the Navy retrenched him after 32 years of loyal service. Moreover, it is obvious his plight today is a result of his own undoing by spending his money...

This Malay feels no love from S'pore

I see no need to begrudge the small number of affirmative action policies to give our Singapore Malay friends a helping hand. It is not like we are going to go the way of Malaysia. And frankly, I’d rather my tax money go to help them than some unknown PRC/India scholar sponsored by Faillip Yeo’s...

This Malay feels no love from S'pore

Singapore Malays are generally peaceful and friendly folks. They are definitely not a threat to your jobs - you hardly see them in top management positions, especially in banks. The only concern is where their allegiance would lie in times of war with our Islamic neighbors.

    What would make you STAY??

This thread might be more appropriately named as "What would make Singapore a better place to stay?" For many, either leaving isn’t an option or there aren’t enough push factors yet. However the all-important first step must be for LKY and PAP to go. All other policy changes will only come...

Discrimination shown by the government towards Singaporeans who study overseas

--------------------- You didn’t lose anything, and that’s probably the best career move you ever made. Many years from now when you look back, you will be so glad that you joined a bank instead of the government.

Chinatown retail sales drop by up to half since start of ERP

These Chinatown retail operators must be lying. ERP is setup to help businesses. Their business can only improve with more ERP gantries. The Inland Revenue department must immediately investigate!!
