If I employ cheap labour, I would not like the call for minimum wage because I fear my cost will go up and I might go out of business. If I am competing job with cheap foreign workers, and minimum wage rule only applies to me, I will be scared shit.

agree. that's why i think there is no straight yes or no to min wage. in fact, i'll look at min wage in the context of an overall solution. eg, small biz that need to hire min wage fellow (ie the subcontractors to big guys) must dare to pass the cost to the big guys who can afford to absorb this...

We don't want minimum wage, because it will increase cost of our domestic helpers, because we don't want to pay higher for foreign construction workers/waitresses. How about this: Don't hire maids. Don't get into business that rely on cheap labour.

Min wage must be balanced by control of foreign workers. People must also be prepared that low value add business (that cannot afford to pay people min wage and cannot find cheap foreign labour to do the job) will be out of business. Finally, GLCs must be ready to earn less to support some...
