How come this Taiwanese chiobu speaks English so much better than Sinkies? Probably better Mandarin and Hokkien too. No Speak Mandarin Campaign in Taiwan, btw.

Most of the orang asli have intermarried with the Hans. My driver in Taiwan married an asli but in the photo he showed me she looked Han. Not many pureblood Han Chinese left - many claim asli or Jap heritage.

A recall an incident while I was dining with 2 American clients who were in SG for a conference. There was a noisy group at the adjacent table talking loudly in Singlish, and my guests were surprised to learn that they were supposedly conversing in a variant of English. It was unintelligible to the Americans.
