My Indian friend tells me that eating with his hands enables him to taste the real flavours of the food. Eating with metal cutlery imparts a 'metallic' taste. And he says as long as you wash your hands before and after eating it's hygienic.

Really doing a disrepect to the Japanese restaurant and their food culture. When in Japan, just could not do what the Japanese do.
