S'pore’s Urban Heat Island effect causes highly built-up and compact districts like HDB towns to be warmer than landed estates or forested areas - especially at night. Urban surfaces like concrete and asphalt absorb solar radiation and release it. The added heat from traffic, industrial activity and air-con units worsens the situation.
