KUALA LUMPUR, Nov 3 — Malaysian rapper Namewee has been charged with drug use and possession following his arrest last month, police confirmed today.

The confirmation came after he publicly denied drug use in connection with the ongoing investigation into the death of Taiwanese influencer Iris Hsieh, also known as “Nurse Goddess”.

Kuala Lumpur police chief Datuk Fadil Marsus said the 41-year-old, whose real name is Wee Meng Chee, was arrested at a hotel on Oct 22, where officers found nine pills suspected to be ecstasy.

He added that Wee also tested positive for a cocktail of drugs, including amphetamines, methamphetamine, ketamine, and THC.

“On Oct 24, he was charged with two offences under Sections 39A(1) and 15(1)(a) of the Dangerous Drugs Act for possession and use of drugs,” Fadil said in a statement.

The possession charge under Section 39A(1) carries a penalty of up to five years in jail and as many as nine strokes of the rotan upon conviction.

The drug use charge under Section 15(1)(a) provides for a maximum two-year jail term or a fine of up to RM5,000.

Fadil added that Wee pleaded not guilty to both charges and was released on bail of RM4,000 for each charge.

The case is set for mention on Dec 18.

Yesterday, Namewee denied the drug allegations after they emerged in Chinese vernacular media, saying he was “really pissed off” by false news reports and public speculation surrounding the incident.

According to Sin Chew Daily, Hsieh was found dead in a hotel bathtub on Oct 30 while filming a video project with Namewee.

Police confirmed he took drugs, and suspects that he carried the dead body of the victim to the bathroom.

He is finished.

I'm waiting for police investigation to see if the victim had semen in her body.

A popular ethnic Chinese Malaysian rapper and filmmaker has been detained to assist police in their investigation into the murder of a Taiwanese social media influencer, the rapper’s lawyer said.

Wee Meng Chee, popularly known as Namewee, surrendered to police early on Wednesday and will be placed under remand for six days, said his lawyer Joshua Tay.

Police said on Tuesday they were searching for Wee after they reclassified Hsieh Yu-hsin’s death as a murder following the discovery of unspecified new evidence.

OnlyFans model Iris Hsieh — who was found dead in a bathtub at a hotel in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia on Wednesday, October 22 — was murdered, police announced on Tuesday, November 4.

The Taiwanese influencer, 31, known to her fans as “Nurse Goddess,” was reportedly meeting with hip-hop artist Namewee, 42, to discuss a video project.

According to latest reports, Mr Namewee had surrendered to the police to ASSIST in investigations early on Wednesday, despite an unusual public announcement by the Malaysian Police Force that they could not find him and a manhunt was underway.....

1. Although he had been found with traces of harmful drug substances in medical tests conducted, there are factors to consider:-

a) He had always been against the use of drugs.

b)
It is NOT the 1st time that he had been arrested, but many times and all knows such tests would be conducted on arrested persons, yet none of such was found oh him in his previous tests.

2)The insignificant nobody have no wish to prejudice the course of justice, but only to share a personal experience of how I had extreme amount of alcohol, fortunately not drugs, in my bloodstream one night:-

It was during a celebration with colleagues in a pub at a hotel. I drink mainly beer to chill and know my limits. but that night on the table were not just jugs of beer, but whisky, brandy, vodka, etc....Any drinker would know never to mix alcoholic drinks as it can be very strong, but that was what happened...

No wishing to be a party pooper, I drank the alcoholic concoctions toasts after toasts, and just after a few mere of toasts and cheering, the next thing I remembered was laying on a hotel bed alone late in the afternoon, with vomit all over the bed and floor....

My colleagues at least had the decency to shoulder carried me and placed me in a hotel room than to leave me alone in the pub.....With resolve, I swore off drinking ANY form of alcohol for a few years, as losing control of myself and mind is not something that is acceptable to me, at any time, and is not the way I was brought up...
