ATB tells you why she got rid of her electeic car.

Good points.

1. Cold winters in China - markedly reduced range
2. Filling up is faster, more convenient than charging up
3. Battery charge deterioration over time
4. Changing batteries is very expensive
5. Insecurity when driving long distances

(1), (5) don't apply to Sg (if you don't drive upcountry). (3) not really applicable too since our cars and petrol are much more expensive than China's (relative to battery price), tipping the cost-benefit in favor of EV, esp when you factor in the 8 yrs/160,000km battery warranty and the new rebate structure.

Range anxiety is a genuine concern for SG drivers travelling to KL, Ipoh and Penang.
Until the M'sians up their charging infrastructure, I'll not drive an EV in Malaysia. With gas costing a mere RM1.50/litre, it would be a long time before drivers there make the switch to EVs.

As the number of EV owners increase in my condo, I notice the age old problem of inconsiderate owners leaving their cars at the charging bay long after the completion of charging. This frustrates other EV drivers whom I have seen searching fruitlessly for a vacant charger.

The best way to counter range anxiety and the lack of charging stations is to have your own diesel-powered genset at all times.

Its already available.
Chinese Extended range EV. It has a 1.5 litre turbo petrol Engine. Which is used to charge the battery pack anywhere between 20kwhr to 70 kwhr. Enough EV only range of between 70-200km good for urban use and A/C slow home charging nightly or when required.
When travelling and battery depleted, the generator kicks in. Good for over 1000km of travelling.

Of course if the girl had waited a wee bit longer, BMW has just released the neue klasse EV good for over 700km on a single charge.

winters are not good for evs. there’s even a map in amerika where it shows you evs have more range below the “winter” belt. sg doesn’t have this problem as climate is a one-trick pony.

Which chinese EV maker has this 1.5l turbo petrol engine for charging?

Cold temps are brutal on batteries. Macham accelerated discharge. My handphone was fully charged, then showed 30% after about an hour in the cold.

did you leave your phone in fridge in sg? or the chiobu you’re with was so cold she froze your phone?
