This was not a invasion. That part of Israel hamas ventured into was part of gaza annexed by israel after it wanted a buffer zone.

Israel annexed the villages in south Gaza because the Arabs there heeded their leeders call in '47 to abandon their villages so the combined Arab armies could ethnically cleanse the Jews. The Arabs failed and the rest is history. Those who stayed became Arab-Israeli citizens. If you start or support a war and you lose, you lose your lands.
