What backbone? He’s probably a farmer officer and let go when it’s time to go. He’s abit young so likely contract not renewed prematurely. Likely a mediocre performer.
He should have made the switch to commercial pilot mid career he could have flew longer. Maybe not qualified or didn’t. Live to regret.
But pilots are well paid and looked after if he had been prudent enough to retire on. Maybe this gig is just to pass time hope he dun lose his entire investment.
 
Now all regulars after they retired no more jobs for them?
