The 42-year-old also said that despite the wild speculation when they first got together, Yuwu had no idea that people thought of him that way then.

Joanne Peh Reveals “It Was Colleagues” Who Thought Her Relationship With Qi Yuwu Was Fake, Even When They Got Married
Mediacorp artistes Joanne Peh, 42 and Qi Yuwu, 48, will celebrate their 11th wedding anniversary in September, but Joanne recently set the record straight about rumours that plagued the couple early in their relationship.

In a recent YouTube interview with Georgina Chang, former The Celebrity Agency head, Joanne was asked about the controversy that surrounded her relationship with Yuwu all those years ago, when naysayers questioned the authenticity of their relationship.

Georgina, who mentioned that she did not know the couple yet at that time, said: "The stuff that I was reading, just the gist of it, they were saying that [Yuwu] was actually in a relationship with someone else, who wasn’t a woman!"

“It baffles me why people seemed so sure,” Joanne replied as she burst out laughing.

The Shero actress also recalled how people speculated that the relationship was a publicity stunt.

“Because it happened to be very close to Star Awards then, and [people thought] that, “Oh, it was for publicity and that they were doing it to get more votes,” said Joanne.

They had publicly announced their relationship in April 2013, the same month that Star Awards was held that year. Both Joanne and Yuwu were still in the running for the Top 10 Most Popular Artistes. They have both since received their All-Time Favourite Artiste awards.

“I think we built a wall around our relationship because of all the chatter, and we didn’t want to speak about it. And sometimes the more you don’t talk about it, the more people want to try and agitate you. I don’t know if that was the intent, but more people will speculate,” explained Joanne.

“It was a conscious decision for us not to speak about it,” she said.

Joanne also said the reason they announced their relationship was to avoid more problems that would come if they'd kept it under wraps instead.

“The intent of doing that was just so if people were to see us outside, hanging out, holding hands, it is not going to become something like gossip,” she recounted.

“We were not going to answer any more questions about who, what, when, and got on with it, like any other couple would in a dating relationship,” Joanne added.

When Georgina asked how Yuwu reacted to the backlash, Joanne laughed and said, “He was very strange. He had no idea that people thought of him that way!”

According to Joanne, Yuwu has always been self-assured and unfazed by what others say.

“He is very strong about what he thinks. He didn’t feel responsible, or that he needed to explain anything,” said Joanne, who also added that it gave her strength.

The rumours persisted even when the couple tied the knot.

The couple wed in September 2014 and have two children - their daughter, nicknamed Mimi, was born in 2015, and their son, in 2017.

“[People were] like, “It is fake, it is not real!' And it was from colleagues, I tell you,” said Joanne with a drawl, clearly remembering those who doubted them.

She did not reveal exactly who these colleagues were.

The rumours continued even affter their daughter was born.

“[People were saying], 'I cannot believe that they are together. I cannot believe it! Even if they have a kid, I am not going to believe that they are together',” Joanne shared.

It was only after the birth of their second child ithat the rumours finally subsided.

“Obviously, we went on to have, not just one, but two kids, and people just shut up after that,” quipped Joanne.

“And I always say time tells," she added.

"Let time tell whether we are real or not. There is no point in me fighting it now, and trying to justify and explain to you. Why do we need to? It is our relationship, it is none of your business, right?”

Joanne Peh appears to be flat-chested

Yuwu is just a 戲子.

Please don't even attempt to promote him as some Patrick Tse. Joanne could have picked someone of a higher calibre.

Who the hell are all these people I've never heard of them in my life.

So was she a virgin when she go with Qiyuwu?
This one I don't dare to comment, but if someone says she is or she was at a particular [moment] then I will believe her unless there is evidence suggesting otherwise.

In fact, this is something that all priests and pastors conducting marriage ceremonies should take note. In addition to "to have and to hold from this day forward, for better or for worse, for richer or for poorer, in sickness and in health, to love and to cherish, until death do us part," the bride should also swear that she is a virgin.

A husband with such expectations may need to find a bride who is 12 years old these days. LOL!
