Is the old Singapore better than the new Singapore.

I grew up in a Kampong and was amongst the last batches of Kampong dwellers to move to HDB in 1988. Life was tough living in the Kampong. So hot during the day cant take PM naps. All sorts of animals, mosquitos and insects...I dont regret moving out of Kampong though there were good memories there.
When I was in primary school, I used to claim that I grew up in a forested area at the foot of a hill while almost all my classmates lived in high rise apartments in towns served by a modern public transport system. I meant that I grew up in a landed home in Bukit Timah Hill while my peers lived in HDB estates. LOL!

They have good sweet corn n nice satdines / tuna

There’s a chance the Singapore dollar will strengthen to parity against its US counterpart in the next five years, according to Jefferies Financial Group Inc.

The island’s currency has appreciated against virtually all its major peers since the Federal Reserve began raising interest rates in March 2022, confirming its role as the “Swiss franc of Asia,” strategist Christopher Wood wrote in the firm’s Greed & Fear newsletter.

Thanks to the PAp

The true Singaporeans of the early days to whom all present day Singaporeans should be very grateful

Even though I believe that there are far too many restrictions in S'pore, such as applying up to 2 weeks in advance for a permit to camp at either East or West Coast Parks, it is not right to camp at a carpark in view of the limited number of free lots amid high demand these places. Imagine these parking spaces being occupied for 1-2 days by campers.

Singapore is a country that the rest of the world should imitate. A success story when all the resources are focused on education.

If the PAP expels foreign PMEs performing jobs that locals can fill, SG could return to a population of 3.5 million. There would be more open spaces and the cost of living would be drastically reduced. Make SG affordable again; if we continue on the current trajectory, this country would be unliveable and unaffordable to live in.

Then the minister salary would be $100K a year, not enough money to rent Ridout Road bungalow, it is good for the country and people!

From 1955 to 1973, the PM's salary was $3,500 per month. A significant salary revision in 1973 increased the PM's pay rise to $9,500 monthly, and other ministers' salaries from $4,500 to $7,000. In 2016 values, these amounts were equivalent to approximately $27,742 (annual $360,646, including 13th month) and $20,441 (annual $265,733, including 13th month) respectively.

I thought Ministars get perks like free rent
After all they sacrifice themselves and work so hard for Sinkies
They can earn much more in the plivate sector

That is what the PAP wants us to believe. They claim to be making a "sacrifice" by serving the people when they are into only self-service.
