Some jobs are safer from the AI revolution than others.

In a recent interview, Geoffrey Hinton, the so-called "Godfather of AI," warned that mass job displacement due to AI is already underway, especially in white-collar sectors. He emphasized that "mundane intellectual labor" is at the greatest risk, naming roles like paralegals and call center workers as especially vulnerable. According to Hinton, AI's rapid advancement means it will eventually outperform humans at nearly every task, but physical labor jobs like plumbing remain relatively safe for now.

Hinton views job loss not just as an economic issue but a psychological one, arguing that even a universal basic income won't replace the sense of purpose people derive from work. While some jobs may evolve into partnerships between humans and AI, this usually results in one person doing what previously required ten, leading to widespread layoffs. Healthcare may be an exception due to its endless demand, but for most industries, Hinton predicts massive restructuring driven by AI integration.
