The family of a young woman killed by her husband held her funeral under the presence of heavy security forces.
About 40 security officers were present at the burial of Hanieh Behboudi to prevent filming of the ceremony, a source told IranWire.
The funeral was held one hour earlier than announced due to pressure from security forces.
The local prosecutor directly warned attendees, according to the source.
Behboudi, 24, was killed by her husband last week after returning from a sports competition in northern Gorgan, according to reports. She was the mother of a 4-year-old daughter.
Sources said the killing was motivated by Behboudi’s sports activities and online presence.
She had posted a photo of her hands on her private Instagram account after winning an arm wrestling competition, which angered her husband.
A source said Behboudi had previously been subjected to domestic violence, and tensions with her husband had escalated in recent weeks.
According to information obtained by IranWire, the husband took their young daughter to Behboudi’s mother’s house the night of the killing, then brought his wife to their home under the pretext of going out.
He strangled her, then cut the veins in both her arms and broke both her wrists to make the scene appear like suicide.
In initial confessions, the suspect said he told his wife’s body, “Let’s see how you want to arm wrestle now.”
He admitted he was neither under the influence of alcohol nor drugs during the killing.
