Hundreds of WP supporters turned up in force at a coffeeshop at Block 322, Hougang Avenue 5 - the traditional gathering point for party supporters of elections past.

Many were carrying inflatable hammers and blowing whistles, but Hougang resident Surjit Dhaliwal, 57, didn’t need any of those. She brought her specially-painted nails.

Once Jalan Kayu falls for PAP in sample count, Punggol GRC and the rest will likely to fall...so Jalan Kayu SMC sample count results is important for tonight...

sample count is very accurate. sample count defeat literally means final defeat. the percentage difference will only get bigger at the final count but not by much.

If the difference is plus minus 1 % or thereabouts then it's not certain until the final countdown to the last vote

Politically apathetic youth? Not this 18-year-old

He won’t be able to vote at this year’s General Election but Mr Ho Jun Wei, 18, has been actively following the last nine days of campaigning.

CNA first bumped into Mr Ho outside the Aljunied-Hougang Town Council branch on Nomination Day (April 23) morning, where he was collecting autographs from WP potential candidates.

Tonight, he proudly shows me he’s got all but four signatures from WP’s central executive committee, with WP’s former secretary-general, Mr Low Thia Khiang, among those missing.

Speaking to me again at Blk 322 Hougang Avenue 5, he said he had wanted to pop by the coffeeshop that’s become the “unofficial” home ground for WP supporters after first reading about it on CNA’s live blog during GE2020. The young Singaporean has also attended rallies organised by both the ruling PAP party and the opposition parties WP and SDP.

“I was also hoping to follow the politicians around on walkabouts but I was a little busy in school,” said Mr Ho.

The 18-year-old student describes himself as a political “moderate” with a huge interest in local politics, especially regarding what parties have to say about bread and butter issues, such as cost of living and housing affordability.

“This will be important when I finally get to vote,” he said.
