台灣大學校長遴選爭議不休，中央研究院前院長李遠哲今天表示，現在把焦點放在學術自由、政府插手「是完全不對的」，並說台大近幾十年來進步很少，沒有能力找一流的校長。

李遠哲今天出席在國立台灣科學教育館舉辦的「島嶼浮塵」特展開幕茶會，會後簡短接受媒體採訪，對台大校長遴選爭議發表看法。
李遠哲表示，看台大最近幾十年來的運作，「我是會很失望的。」他擔任中研院長時，為了中研院的提升，做了很多努力，但是台灣大學卻進步的很少。
李遠哲說，外界把台大遴選案看成政治對學術自由的干預，「這是不對的。」他回憶，遴選過程中，媒體有多篇報導，把候選人區分為中研院派、台大派，對某些候選人做不利的連結，進而打擊這些人，「後來管中閔被拉上來，前面的人被拉下去，這裡面有很不好的因素在操作。」
李遠哲並提到，台大沒有能力找一流的校長。清華大學第一次做校長遴選時，他擔任遴選委員會召集人，他們做了很多努力，透過遴選會的「自我教育」，認清清華大學的需求，後來遴選出國外很有名的教授擔任校長，大家都非常興奮，「台大有沒有辦法做這樣的事？做不到！台大本身要檢討。」
李遠哲表示，國外校長遴選沒有成功，遴選會要馬上解散，重新組織、重新開始。現在各界把焦點放在學術自由和政府插手，「是完全不對的。」
台大校長遴選委員會今年1月5日選出台大教授管中閔為新校長，原訂2月上任，但因為管中閔陸續傳出擔任企業獨立董事、論文案、赴中國活動等爭議，教育部5月以遴選過程「有經濟法律上重大利益未迴避的適法疑慮」，發函請台大重啟遴選，台大不服，已提起訴願。

The president of the Taiwan University has been controversial. Li Yuanzhe, former dean of the Academia Sinica, said today that it is totally wrong to focus on academic freedom and the government’s intervention. Li Yuanzhe said that in the recent decades of operation of the Taiwan University, "I will be very disappointed." When he was the president of the China Research Institute, he made a lot of efforts for the promotion of the Academia Sinica, but the Taiwan University has made little progress.
Li Yuanzhe said that the outside world regards the election of the National Taiwan University as a political intervention in academic freedom. "This is not right." On January 5, the President's Selection Committee of the National Taiwan University elected the president of the National Taiwan University, Guan Zhongyu, as the new principal.
