SINGAPORE – A night club at St James Power Station had its public entertainment licence suspended after the police arrested 11 people at the premises for suspected vice-related activities.

On Dec 4, officers from the Criminal Investigation Department and Clementi Police Division conducted an operation at a club along Sentosa Gateway and arrested nine women and two men aged between 21 and 54.

TODAY understands that the club is Rupee @ St James – Bollywood Gentlemen’s club.

Preliminary investigations revealed that a vice syndicate has been using the club to operate and provide sexual services to its clients. It booked the services of the women through the management of the club for fees between S$500 and S$1,000.

These women, who are work pass holders, are suspected to have made use of their stay in Singapore to commit the vice-related offences, police said in a media release on Monday (Dec 11). Investigations are ongoing.

The club is the first outlet to be suspended under the enhanced regulatory powers of the Public Entertainments Act since its revision on August 1.

In a Facebook post on Friday (Dec :sunglasses:, the club claimed that it will be temporarily closed till Dec 31 “due to upgrading works”.

“An exciting 2018 awaits you with more first class Bollywood Entertainment,” read the club’s post. “In the meantime, Rupee St James is available for private event reservations and bookings.”

I don’t think Dennis is involved in the night biz anymore. Sold off his biz quite awhile ago I was told.

Vice-related activities take place in almost all nightspots where there are foreign women working under Work Permit or S-pass.

For some of these joints, foreign women work there on social visit pass or student pass.

The way it’s reported, it gives readers the impression that police, after extensive enquiries/observation/Investigation hit the jackpot! Bloody joke.

No performing artistes can survive in their job, whether on 6 months WP or 2 yrs S-pass without sleeping with hangflower clients.

Some sleep with many, yet find it tough to meet the required 8-12k monthly requirement. On record they are paid X dollars a month to sing.

In reality, none gets paid by their bosses to sing. Time for the useless SPF and related agencies to wake up.

For KTVs, Viet gals are all good to go. $200 per shot. Not familiar with KTV joints where PRCs work as hostesses. But I reckon, while there’s no market rate, every PRC hostess has a price.

In no position to comment on Thai joints. Too rowdy for me. Lots of fights.

There will always be blokes willing to pay through their nose for the "packaging'. That's why these joints will always be in business. There will also always be employment in SPF to hire people to periodically conduct raids. Media will be present, there will be a scene for them to film after the raid is done, gals will be pressed against walls with hair covering faces to make it appear in the news media like they were caught, shamed, cuffed away, whole operation was a glorious success. 154th will report that "shower cubicles were confiscated" in the case of massage parlors and there will be Parliamentary motions filed by "concerned MPs" who want massage joints regulated. Agree. Every single one from Lido to small KTV have this or end up doing it. Mamasans get the bulk of the money from this and the big clubs settle with Mamasans at month end. The owners of the string of Japanese joints of the 80 and 90s hands out their share to the mamasans after reconciling in their office in Raffles City also at month end. Sometimes Bank RM called in by company over disputed transaction from a customer and the bill here is in the 10k and above range.

Either one of the girls or ex partner of the joint or a competitor complain and these guys must have been doing it openly and not following the accepted practice.

It’s no different to the government approach since the 60s on vice may it be Geylang, Desksr road, massage parlours. Follow the norm, don’t attract attention, no drug trafficking on premises and don’t create trouble. The raids are done to assure the public that they are on top.

One of the hottest spots was Barbarella and Tree Tops in the 70/80s . Same location, permanently closed after a few suspension. Even the name is banned.

The incident happened in an alley between Lorong 14 Geylang and Lorong 16 Geylang on Sunday (Dec 10) at 9.30pm, reports Lianhe Wanbao.

It is understood that there are many illegal stalls operating along the stretch and patrons would gather there to gamble.

A witness, Mr Liang, said that he was passing by when he saw more than 10 people walking to Lorong 14 Geylang.

He thought nothing of it, and subsequently spotted a tour bus which seemed to be ferrying some tourists.

Over 10 of these ‘tourists’ alighted suddenly and ran into the alley.

The other group which he had spotted earlier also suddenly ran towards the alley.

According to Mr Liang, the atmosphere was charged, and he heard several people shouting.

It was then he realised that there was a raid, and the ‘tourists’ were actually plainclothes officers.

The two groups of officers surrounded the alley, even as stall operators and patrons attempted to flee.

Mr Liang said:

“It was very tense.

“There were people running, and people chasing after them as well.

“I saw over 10 people arrested by the police.

“They were ordered to squat on the ground, handcuffed and led away.”

Mr Liang, who said that he is familiar with Geylang, added that he has seen the police conducting raids in Geylang but this is the first time he has seen them arriving on a tour bus.
