It is unique and most unusual - because there is NO LIGHTS NO VISUAL and just loud bangs and vibrations. Usually if meteor struck there will be very bright flashes of light trace and smoke trace. But nothing except loud sound and vibration now.

Tech & Science Boom meteor shower Colorado

Loud booming noises have startled people across the United States, but it's not clear what actually is happening or if the separate events are even related.

Residents in a number of states—Alabama, California, Idaho, Michigan and New Jersey—have reported hearing similar, mysterious sounds. Most recently, the noises also were heard in Colorado, CBS Denver reports.

The Monday sounds left CBS Denver’s meteorologist Chris Spears baffled. The only possible explanation Spears could conclude was that meteors from the Leonid meteor shower were bursting in the sky, creating the loud noises. However, Ron Hranac, an astronomy expert, struck down his theory saying that the meteors produced by the Leonids are way too small for this to happen, according to CBS Denver.

A day after the explosion-like noises, officials believed they had a better answer of what happened on Monday night, but they still aren’t certain.

An empty oil storage tank over-pressurized near the region where residents were calling in about the boom, Colorado Oil and Gas Conservation Commission (COGCC) officials told The Denver Channel. Due to the pressure, the lid was blown from the tank, “potentially resulting in a loud noise,” officials explained.

Following the incident, the oil and gas production company went on to file an accident report, which stated “that a malfunction of a production vessel led to an over-pressurization of a new and empty … storage tank, which resulted in the lid of the tank being compromised,” The Denver Post reports.

Furthermore, the report notes that no one was hurt and there were no environmental impacts or property damage outside of the boundaries of their property. The COGCC is now looking into the event to further understand what happened.

“The wells at the site will be closed in until equipment repairs have been made and a more thorough review of the incident has been completed,” the report said, according to The Denver Post.

Although the cause of the Colorado noises may have been discovered, other noises from across the country remain a mystery. A recent boom heard in Alabama left the National Weather Service in Birmingham taking many guesses as to what happened.

"Re: loud boom heard: we do not see anything indicating large fire/smoke on radar or satellite; nothing on USGS indicating an earthquake," the agency wrote on Twitter. "We don't have an answer, and can only hypothesize with you. 1) sonic boom from aircraft; 2) meteorite w/ current Leonid shower?"

However, the November 14 incident has still yet to be solved.

Mysterious Booms Heard In Colorado Leave Residents Baffled

A series of mysterious boom-like noise, which has been heard in various parts of the United States, has left both residents and authorities baffled. Experts are still trying to figure out the actual cause of the sound. ( Pixabay )
A loud boom-like noise shook parts of Lakewood, Brighton, Lochbuie, and Elizabeth in Colorado on Monday night. The sound, which residents described as an explosion, has left authorities baffled.

Mysterious Noise Baffles Residents
The boom was reportedly first heard around 9 p.m., local time, on Nov. 20. It was so loud that some people in the vicinity stated that their house and windows shook during the incident.

A few residents took to Facebook to report the matter, while several others called up Denver7, the local news channel, to describe the noise.

"It was just like boom and the trailer shook, and I thought, 'what the heck was that?’”, said Ray Armijo, a resident who has served in the military. "It kind of scared me a bit.”

Armijo also added that the sound did not seem to come from the ground but rather from the air. Another resident, Aleja Moronez, claimed that the noise was so loud that it moved things in her room and some posters fell off the wall.

Lochbuie Police Chief, Tracey McCoy, said that he contacted both the Buckley Air Force Base and Federal Aviation Administration, however, they were carrying out no operations in the area at that time that could have contributed to the sound. The Brighton Fire Department also received several calls from worried residents, but they too could not locate the source.

Booms Also Heard In Other Parts Of United States
Colorado is not the only U.S. state, where residents of several towns have reported hearing explosion-like sounds. In the past few days, the booms have also been heard in New Jersey, Alabama, Idaho, and Detroit.

The residents of the areas are now speculating about the cause of the noise, now referred to as “Bama Boom”, with some attributing it to active meteor showers, deep earthquake, and even an alien invasion.

The Birmingham National Weather Service originally hypothesized that the sound could have come from a supersonic aircraft or that a meteor, from the Leonid meteor shower, which peaked on Nov. 17 and 18, could have broken the sound barrier. The latter, however, was refuted by the head of NASA's Meteoroid Environment Office, Bill Cooke.

Cooke said that the noise could have been caused by a ground explosion, supersonic aircraft, or probably a bolide, which is a large meteor that explodes in the atmosphere, but is unrelated to the Leonid meteor shower.

The U.S. Geological Survey's Lakeview Retreat near Centreville, Alabama had also picked up a boom sound. However, seismic data indicated that the boom was not the result of an earthquake-related event.

At present, authorities are still investigating the incidents and are trying to figure out the actual reason that led to the booms, which have been heard at various points throughout the month.

Something caused an Earth-shaking boom near Denver and nobody can figure out what it was

Thanksgiving week is supposed to be a pretty laid-back affair — unless you’re preparing to fight the mobs during Black Friday, of course — but things got off to a rough start for citizens of Lochbuie, Colorado, on Monday, when an incredibly loud boom shook the town. Now, authorities and curious residents are trying to figure out exactly what caused it.

The strange happening occurred at around 9 pm local time, with countless residents of the small town not only hearing the incredibly loud bang, but feeling it. Those in the vicinity reported that their houses physically shook, rattling windows and giving just about everyone a scare. At the moment, there’s been no explanation for the boom, and the closest military base has said that there were no operations happening in the area at the time of the curious noise. However, some Lochbuie locals have their own theories.

Don't Miss Here are Amazon’s 5 best-selling Black Friday deals – did you get them all?
The Lochbuie Police Department page on Facebook is packed with people proposing their own explanations for what caused the boom. Some suggest an aircraft sonic boom was the cause, but without military aircraft in the area that would seem unlikely, while others have wilder guesses ranging from an alien landing to an earthquake.

“On November 20, 2017, at approximately 9 PM, our officers were notified of a suspicious sound, described as a ‘loud boom’ that shook multiple houses, coming from the northwest side of Lochbuie,” the police explain. “At this time, the origin of the sound is unknown.”

Many have publicly wondered if the boom was shaking caused by fracking in the area, destabilizing the ground and causing a seismic disturbance that sounded like an explosion sent out a shockwave. Those who felt the boom at their homes report items falling off of walls and feeling as though their house was struck by a vehicle.

Strange booms like this have been reported elsewhere in recent years, and are often explained away as sonic booms by showboating jets or even “frostquakes,” which occur when moist ground freezes over a large area and then fractures, causing what feels like a mini earthquake. There’s still no official explanation from authorities for this one, but chances are it wasn’t “North Korea bombing us,” as one resident feared.

MYSTERY booming sounds have left people baffled all over the planet.

The terrifying noises have been recorded everywhere from the Middle East to the East Midlands this year - with the majority heard on America's eastern coast.

The mysterious loud boom noise has been reported in multiple locations around the world this year
The latest boom came to light this week scaring residents in the US state of Alabama.

Cops say they were notified of a "suspicious sound" that was described as a "loud boom" at around 9pm on Monday.

The boom dubbed "Bama Boom" shook multiple houses and appeared to originate on the northwest side of Lochbuie, police said.

But cops and experts can't seem to figure out what caused the mysterious noise.

Some experts say causes could range from supersonic aircrafts to meteors exploding in the atmosphere.

But apparently this isn't the first time the mysterious sound has been heard with 64 locations reporting similar sounds this year.

US Geological survey
A sound graph from the USGS Lakeview Retreat in Alabama shows a loud boom heard over the US state. The cause of the boom is still unknown
Among those in locations include Michigan, Lapland, St Ives, Swansea and Yorkshire.

Meanwhile, residents in Alabama took to Twitter to report the latest mysterious event.

One local described it as "an incredibly loud boom" that "shook the entire house".

@spann I heard and felt an incredibly loud boom from inside my home in Moody around 1:40-1:45pm today. Shook the entire house. Any news? Thanks! #boom

Residents in Alabama were left baffled last week when a loud boom resounded across much of the state.

The boom, nicknamed 'Bama Boom', has left experts stumped, with suggested causes ranging from supersonic aircrafts to meteors exploding in the atmosphere.

This isn't the first time that the mysterious sound has been heard, and incidents are becoming more frequent according to some reports.

This year alone, similar noises have been reported 64 times this year, in locations including Michigan, Lapland, St Ives, Swansea and Yorkshire.

Mysterious booms have been reported 64 times this year, in locations including Michigan, Lapland, St Ives, Swansea and Yorkshire. Incidents are becoming more frequent according to some reports.

WHAT COULD THEY BE?
In 2017 alone, 64 booms have been heard worldwide.

The cause of most of the booms remains a mystery, although several explanations have been suggested.

1) Sonic booms

A sonic boom is the sound associated with the shock waves created by an object traveling through the air faster than the speed of sound – such as supersonic aircrafts.

Sonic booms generate significant amounts of sound energy, sounding like an explosion to the human ear.

2) Military exercises

Many unexplained loud noises can be put down to military training, either at Army or Naval bases or in remote areas used for such exercises.

3) Controlled explosions

A controlled explosion is a method for detonating or disabling a suspected explosive device, such as bags left at train stations.

4) Unusual weather

Many loud noises link back to unusual weather events, such as electrical storms or thunder storms.

5) Meteors

Large meteors passing above Earth often produce shock waves that can be heard as a sonic boom.

6) Sound amplified from aircraft

Some have suggested that the sound was due to inversion - a phenomenon that occurs when a layer of warm air sits over a layer of cooler air, magnifying the sound of an aircraft miles away.

7) Aliens

Some conspiracy theorists claim that the mysterious booms are noises created by aliens - although there is no evidence to support this.

Alabama, November 14

Cause: Unknown, suggested explanations include a sonic boom from an aircraft or a meteorite

The Birmingham National Weather Service tweeted: 'Loud boom heard: we do not see anything indicating large fire/smoke on radar or satellite; nothing on USGS indicating an earthquake.'

The service suggested that the sound was either caused by a sonic boom from aircraft, or a meteorite from the Leonid shower.

But Nasa has since cast doubt on these explanations.

Speaking to ABC 3340, Bill Cooke, head of Nasa's Meteoroid Environment Office, said that the boom could have been caused by a supersonic aircraft, a ground explosion, or a bolide - a large meteor that explodes in the atmosphere unrelated to the Leonid shower.

While the noise was picked up by the US Geological Survey, data suggests that the boom wasn't the result of an earthquake.

The boom may have been caused by a military flight by a supersonic jet, although the US Air Force is yet to confirm this.

The Bama Boom is just one of many mysterious booms heard worldwide this year.

Idaho, November 15

Cause: Unknown

The day after the boom in Alabama, a similar noise was heard in Idaho.

Multiple people reported hearing a loud boom over the Lewiston-Clarkston Valley around 23:00.

Many of the reports described the sound as being similar to a sonic boom, although its cause and location remain unclear.

Cairns, October 10

Cause: Unknown, suggested explanations include a meteorite, a gas bottle explosion or military plane

On October 10, a boom was heart over Cairns, Queensland that had the city baffled.

While the noise in Alabama was picked up by the US Geological Survey (graph pictured), data suggests that the boom wasn't the result of an earthquake

Residents' theories ranged from a meteorite to a gas bottle explosion or military plane.

A FA-18 Hornet plane was heard flying over Cairns the previous night, but no jets were flying on the night when the 'explosion' happened.

The Birmingham National Weather Service tweeted: 'Loud boom heard: we do not see anything indicating large fire/smoke on radar or satellite; nothing on USGS indicating an earthquake'

Abergavenny, May 11

Cause: Unknown

Residents in Abergavenny, Wales, were also shocked after they heard a series of booms on May 11.

James Spann, AMS Certified Broadcast Meteorologist tweeted that no explanation had been provided by USGS, NOAA or EMA

Speaking to the Abergavenny Chronicle, one resident said: 'It nearly gave me a heart attack it was that loud. At first I thought it was shotgun blast or a firework, but it was way too loud for that. It sounded more like a tank going off.

'My husband said it was probably mini meteors colliding with the earth, but have you ever heard such nonsense?'

Again, the source of the Welsh booms have remained unsolved.

But other booms this year have had explanations behind them.

Other booms have been known to be caused by secret military missions. On May 7, a boom rattled Central Florida, caused by a military mission ending at the Kennedy Space Centre (stock image)

Lapland, November 17

Cause: Falling meteor

On November 17, a boom in Lapland was caused by a fireball from a falling meteor.

Footage showed a bright light in the sky over Inari in Finland - but the flash was so intense it was also seen in Russia's Kola Peninsula and in northern Norway.

Stargazers reported seeing the sky 'light up like day' for a few seconds alongside a loud noise as the space rock plummeted towards Earth.

Eyre Peninsula, October 27

Cause: Falling meteor

On October 27, another boom was heard over Eyre Peninsula in Australia, as a bright blue meteor shot across the sky.

On November 17, a boom in Lapland was caused by a fireball from a falling meteor. Footage showed a bright light in the sky over Inari in Finland - but the flash was so intense it was also seen in Russia's Kola Peninsula and in northern Norway

The loud bangs weren't caused by the fireball hitting Earth, and instead were caused by the change in pressure as the meteor soared through the air.

Speaking to News.com.au, Renee Sayers, a spokeswoman from the Desert Fireball Network, explained: 'The shock wasn't from it hitting the ground; It is like a sonic boom shock, a pressure shock.'

Central Florida, May 7

Cause: Supersonic flight testing

Other booms have been known to be caused by secret military missions.

A loud boom was heard across much of northern Alabama on Tuesday, November 14 around 1:39 p.m. CST, according to ABC's Birmingham affiliate 3340. The Birmingham National Weather Service originally hypothesized that the sound could have come from a supersonic aircraft or a meteor breaking the sound barrier, possibly from the Leonid meteor shower that peaks on November 17 and 18.

Re: loud boom heard: we do not see anything indicating large fire/smoke on radar or satellite; nothing on USGS indicating an earthquake. We don't have an answer, and can only hypothesize with you. 1) sonic boom from aircraft; 2) meteorite w/ current Leonid shower?

— NWS Birmingham (@NWSBirmingham) November 14, 2017
However, the head of NASA's Meteoroid Environment Office (MEO) at the Marshall Space Flight Center in Huntsville, Alabama, Bill Cooke, has since cast doubt on the theory that the boom could have been caused by a Leonid meteor. Cooke told ABC 3340 that the "Bama Boom," as it has become known, could have been caused by a supersonic aircraft, a ground explosion, or possibly a bolide—a large meteor that explodes in the atmosphere unrelated to the Leonid shower.

The noise from the boom was picked up by the U.S. Geological Survey's Lakeview Retreat near Centreville, Alabama. However, seismic data suggests that the boom was not the result of an earthquake-related event.

A sound graph from the U.S. Geological Survey’s Lakeview Retreat near Centreville, Ala., shows a loud boom heard over Alabama at about 1:39 p.m. CST.
USGS/NASA
The most common source of mysterious sonic booms are unannounced military flights in supersonic jets. Such a flight could very well be the source of the Bama Boom. ABC 3340 reached out to Maxwell Air Force Base in Alabama, however that base primarily houses training colleges such as the Air Force Officer Training School and Air Force ROTC. The 908th airlift wing is stationed at Maxwell, but they fly subsonic C-130s.

Still no explanation for the “Bama Boom” around 1:45p CT. Reports are from Blount, Jefferson, Walker, Cullman, Talladega, Calhoun, Clay, Winston, Randolph, Tuscaloosa, St. Clair counties.

No explanation from USGS, NOAA, or EMA. Waiting to hear back from NASA… possible meteor

— James Spann (@spann) November 14, 2017
However, any one of a number of Air Force Bases could be the source of a supersonic jet, such as Robbins Air Force Base just to the east in Georgia, which maintains the country's F-15 Eagles. The military may make an announcement following the flight tests, or NASA scientists might determine that the source was in fact an exploding meteor in the atmosphere. Until then, Alabamians will just have to look up to the sky and wonder.

When the SR-71 was retired many were puzzled when they did not announce a replacement. The SR71 was still state of the art & so why did they retire a current system?

Probably because the Aurora is a better solution. I'm sure that there have many product improvements to the tech e.g. Ver 1.0, ver 1.1, ....& so on. The original team may be retired but the Skunkworks is still around I.e. Lockheed.

With the problems in N. Korea the Aurora must be busy keeping an eye on the north. The Aurora is very, very ....fast with estimates speeds of flying at Mach 5 to 8.

We will never know because it is still a secret program

Such type of spy planes are already useless. No way will any govt spend budget to waste time.

They can be detected tracked and shot down today. Satellites can take better pictures than them.

Anti-satellite measures also prevented them from gathering useful intelligence. E.g. covered enclosed camouflaged faked deception etc.

Beside satellites, today they use drones, hackers, spies, etc to fish more info than flying stupid spy planes.

Spy planes fly at most MACH3.5 25km altitude, e.g. S-400 can shoot down MACH14, few hundred km altitude and even satellites.

Only countries as rich as the US can invest in such expensive technologies. They also need to be upgraded as other countries develop counter measures. A spy plane is just one of many weapons systems that the US fields.,

The US were using the older SR71 for years & none were ever lost to enemy fire, only to accidents. If the SR72 exists it must be an awesome plane & the designers would have made plans to counter the Russian weapon systems

USA had been bankrupted long time.

Federal Govt ceased operation due to budget used up, state govts many times shutdown due to budget finished. White House Secret Service also bankrupted. Policeman Fireman salary suspended due to govt bankrupt.

Military is biggest bankrupt, lost wars everywhere, spend weapons useless and expensive, crashed expensive planes too often, crashed expensive warships too often. Expensive weapon projects cancel led here and there. All fucked alike beggars.

2017 retail closings: Why you don’t want to buy gift cards
Ahead of the 2017 holiday shopping season, money expert Clark Howard is repeating his warning about gift cards, which become worthless if a store or restaurant suddenly goes out of business.

“If you have any gift cards in your home that are for major retailers, I want you to go and shop. I want you to use them up,” Clark said.

Think twice before you give somebody a gift card for Christmas as well. In 2017, several retailers announced store closings in early January after reporting weak holiday sales.

So, if you give a gift card in December and the store closes in January, the recipient may not have used it yet.

If you don’t know what to get somebody, give them a nice card and give them cash. It may not seem as personal, but you don’t have to worry about a store closing with cash.

Here’s our list of the major retailers that closed stores in 2017:
