Kenneth Jeyaretnam is the new GMS -- aims to be top village insect

When asked for his response, Reform Party Secretary-General Kenneth Jeyaretnam said: "In the light of WP's protracted silence on this matter, individually and collectively, we find this decision somewhat surprising.

"By sacking Yaw, the WP leadership has denied the people of Hougang and the wider Singapore public, the accountability and transparency they crave," he said.

"So far, we have had a rumour followed by an official no comment followed by silence, followed by a sacking for silence, and finally a statement about that silence.

"What we are left with is still silence. We have seen in the past that when the ruling party sacked members, it led to a hush-up and less accountability, not more.

"My personal hope for the people of Hougang is that Mr Low (Thia Khiang) will persuade Eric Tan to rejoin the party. He can then put up a candidate of long-term good standing with the party and the people thereby minimising disruption."

Not surprise to hear this from NSP. Kenneth is still having red-eye over WP's success in last GE. He derives great satisfaction in taking the opportunity to drive the dagger further in and add more salt to WP's wound.

I think JBJ's biggest sacrifice of spending time in politics was not pumping some intelligence into this eldest son. Luckily he realised he needed to do some fatherhood good and managed to save the second.

I have deep respect for the late Mr JBJ.. But I can't stop myself from typing this.. His son is just a bumbling idiot who can never ever fill the shoes of his great late Father.. Reform Party is a rojak party.. KJ should get his own house in order first before poking his long sharp pointed Pinocchio nose into the WP's internal affair..

KJ is the least qualified among all opposition members to comment on WP. The manner in which he led RP at last GE only showed how inept he is who not only can't speak coherently and impactfully, but totally lacked political acumen, strategy and judgement. He single-handedly damaged RP and is absolutely responsible for its very poor showing. He greatly disappointed all those who placed high hopes on him being the son of JBJ. What he ought to have done is to fade quietly away into oblivion, instead he reinforced what we all think about by making such silly remarks that is equalled to only by those from another bloody idiot - Khaw Boon Wan.

It's not about the fact that KJ criticized (although any party leader should definitely not do this at this moment). Its the manner in which he did so, and the substance (or the lack thereof) of what he said. I frankly don't know what planet he is living on.

Totally inane comment. Shows lack of political acumen at a time like this.

He should use the WP example to dare the PAP to come clear of all its skeletons. If he takut, the least he could do innocently is to refer to scroobal's challenge to Shanmugam and ask him to comment whether there was any fire seen the smoke.

I am not exactly a WP lover.Because I still cannot digest the fact that Sylvia Lim by her choice alone stood with PAP against JBJ -the very giant who breathed life into WP with his blood, sweat, wealth and sacrificed everything that he held dear for the sake of democracy in Singapore.I am,of course, talking about the International Bar Association's -Rule of Law Symposium held at Suntec City.By her logical extension, did Singaporeans want Mr Chia Thye Poh's three-decade detention? Did Singaporeans want the media to be completely under the thumb of the PAP? Did the people support the manipulation of the electoral process?

Yes bro, that's what Sylvia Lim stood for in front of the world audience.

But instead she got a slap on her face when the same IBAHRI released it's own report later which expressed concern about human rights and the independence of the judiciary in Singapore here--http://www.ibanet.org/Arti/Detail.aspx?ArticleUid=0081C460-4B39-4ACB-BB40-8303FCEFDB31

Hence I see a repetition here.

Sort of tit for tat.

Though KJ has every right to do unto Sylvia Lim for what she did to JBJ.......his father.

But for the sake of opposition unity, opposition parties must close rank now.

That would be political maturity if not statesmanship.

Workers' Party should not field candidate in Hougang by-election
Letter from Jason Lee 04:46 AM Feb 17, 2012

The move by the Workers' Party and its secretary general Low Thia Khiang to expel its elected Member of Parliament, who refused to address allegations of indiscretions in his private life, demonstrated the party's firm stand that no one individual is bigger than the party.

Mr Low did not mince his words when he described Mr Yaw's action as irresponsible and creating a crisis of trust.

While the party's decision and Mr Low's tone - which clearly demonstrated his deep disappointment with his former protege - might win the party more support, I urge the WP to go one step further, and not field a candidate in the by-election if the Prime Minister decides to call one.

With seven representatives in Parliament today, the WP should offer the opportunity to other opposition parties. We have seen the performances of the party's MPs in Parliament over the past four months, and with all due respect, it would be ideal for the nation and our lawmaking process if we are able to hear the alternative views and suggestions of other opposition MPs in the House.

Agree. He has the services of a SC anytime. Philip will not desert him.
