The Malaysian woman needs to know her place in society. It was not the PAP that first had the idea of holding the meet the people sessions. Anyone with the answer ? - the name of the person and the party that he was with.

David Marshall when he was with either the Labour Front or WP.

Very close bro. It was Francis Thomas, a welshman who with Lew Yew Hock and David Marshall that founded Labour front. When David founded WP, he carried the practice with him. Francis Thomas was true socialist. Imagine an Ang Mo, meeting residents of his ward under dimly lit locations to hear the concerns first hand.

I did once mentioned you have a memory of an elephant. You should be good at the game called TRIVIA. Pray tell.

You mean Lim Yew Hock, the guy who sold Christmas Island to the Aussies?

Oh ok, so it goes all the way back to Labour Front with the three gents. Do I get some rep points for trying? :D

I wish. Seem to remember the politics part as seem to surface out of the blue.

Actually I was impressed that you picked out Labour Front. An entire generation grew up thinking that PAP invented everything from a bar of soap to god knows what. When i realised it was an angmo who was prepared to meet the lower income and poor, I was impressed. He was also the same person who revealed the corruption in his own political party.

Same Francis thomas who became Principal of st Andrews Sec school in the 60s/70s.

Disgraceful, that she was once a journalist, and not knowing much else except PAP this, PAP that.

She was basically a hack in New Paper. Not going anywhere. Then one day she wrote an series of articles on unwed mothers living on welfare in NZ and compared with wonderful Singapore. Old Man immediately wanted to see her and the rest is history. Promoted, sent to ST, then Research Dept, could not find job outside so to NTUC.

yes,

In the 60s and 70s St Andrew's also had a social work group and most Saturdays rain or shine there would be food distribution for the poor families from the nearby Potong Pasir and Kolam Ayer areas. Thought his daughter is Margaret Thomas...completed HSC circa 1968.

One and the same. The one who married the school matron and the daughter is none other than Myrna Thomas.

Thanks for all this, scroobal! It's really informative. So Irene Ng is yet another example of how porlumpar works within the Singapore system. Unbelievable how the old man singlehandedly ensured porlumparism is institutionalized within the PAP and the civil service. Is it any wonder then, the state media is One big propaganda piece?

haha..you're unbeatable with trivia.. Better than EW Jesudason , who for years at RI, had a couch in his back room of his office, and only titillating, enticing rumours of his secretary..

Another trivia perhaps? George W Barker was the only Minister who dared to smoke in the presence of LKY.

Not George lah. Edmund Barker, famously known as Eddie at the Singapore Cricket Club. He was often seen driving around in his old Mercedes E 200, with his bodyguard in the front passenger seat - both of them happily smoking and laughing away. A true son of Singapore who gave up a lucrative law career to serve Singapore.

AND DO YOU FIND HIM BEING CREDITED ALONG WITH YOU KNOW WHO?

Just for comparison. In the US, where I lived for several years as a student, there's no such thing as MPS. The resident with problem writes to or calls up the Congress Representative's office for an appointment. All Congress Representatives maintain their own offices with at least a clerk or secretary. Expenses can be claimed to certain limits. They handle legislative matters only. Municipal (equivalent to our Town Council) issues are handled by Mayors separatedly elected.

I also have a distant relative from the UK who told me, all UK MPs are given free offices in the Westminister; that's why their Parliament House is so huge. They're supposed to be in their respective offices unless Parliament declares long breaks. Like in the US, their local constituents not in London can write to or call them up with legalistive issues or appeals. Municipal issues are handled by Town Councillors separatedly elected. When they're free to visit their own constituency outside London, they do conduct someting like occasional MPS, known as constituency surgery.

Over the pool table, his profanities could make a pirate blush.
