Big parties finance smaller parties. They do not want to put all eggs in one basket.

Even the wiki isn't very clear about it, :( but as I recall from before, not the whole parliament can be contested by political parties, their constitution is monarchy, the royals and military may have reserved seats that parties can not contest. I suppose cabinet and premier can be formed from the majority within 125 Party-Listed seats alone.

I know quite surprisingly that in e.g. Pakistan the parliament has Reserved Seats for women.:eek: that is why women can win election to be president in a male dominant culture country. 1st World SG still more backward than Pakistan in this aspect that complains are now against Ass Loong have no new woman full minister.;)

The House of Representatives

The lower house is called the House of Representatives of Thailand (สภาผู้แทนราษฎร; RTGS: Sapha Phu Thaen Ratsadon). Have reserved seat for army and royal. That will big problem. Not even democracy country.

You are the same SDP Uncle Yap right? If so, in 2006, I saw you and Dr Chee making a public speech beside Woodlands MRT station. You criticized Thaksin and praise the Thai Junta for overthrowing Thaksin. You folks compared TRT to PAP and you folks really sounded like expert in Thailand politics...

OK, I am not trying to show off... but what I know is; The Thai Government consist of the Upper and Lower House.

The Upper House is the Senate. 150 seats. 76 are elected and 74 nominated (thanks to the lousy Junta). Current election is Lower House Election.

Lower House, i.e The House of Representatives has 500 Members: 375 Members are democratically elected through single constituency elections, while the other 125 are appointed accordingly through party-list proportional representation. The roles and powers of the House of Representatives have been enshrined in the Constitution of 2007.

So, PT and Democrats having 125 candiate does not mean that the sent 125 candidates for Election. It simply means that there are 125 candidates for the Party List.

that's about right.
Thai voters cast 2 votes during lower house elections, one for MP candidate and other for party they support which determines the proportion for party list candidates.

Upper house appointed senators are unconstitutional, someone mentioned representatives from monarchy, royals and military.
Provision for military representation is a given and some appointees might proclaim to be royalists but there is no monarchy or royals representation as royalty are supposed to be above politics.

My point is, your understanding of Thai politics is skin deep. You equate whatsoever to your opinion of PAP.

Thaksin had (and still has) the support of majority Thais. He was elected by the people and not selected. Your allegation of Thaksin are what the Thai elite think of Thaksin. But the rural poor think that he is the saviour of the poor!

After the Junta overthrew an elected Government, is Thailand better of now? Is there reconciliation? Are the rural poor happy?

Sorry UY but your comparison is flawed and too simplistic.

Every Thai government is as corrupt as the other and have been guilty of doing all the things you have listed long before Thaksin came into the picture.
Thaksin was just better at it that's all. At the same time he was smart to serve the poor and forgotten thai voters (in the north and north east) making him very popular, this combination made him a very dangerous man to the establishment and also led to his downfall.

The King with all his wealth and moral authority (read power) will never have been sidelined to a puppet regardless of what happens.
The relationship of the holy trinity in Thailand of monarchy, military, bureaucracy is complex one.

Rural folks had been tricked by Thug-Sin, they will only be suffering more and be poorer than before when their SAVIOUR BILLIONAIRE use the peasants' votes to rid all other political powers. They will be dead-meat and except for peasant revolt there will be no one left to save these silly peasants.

Thaksin was never the totalizator bandit as despite his popularity, he did not had enough clout. Like I said, there are many factors at play in Thai politics. For one he did not have any influence in the military, though he did try unsuccessfully with the appointment of his cousin as army chief.

No Thai could think of Thaksin as God, the King yes but not Thaksin or anyone else. And he was popular and well liked by the rural folks simply because they benefited from his policies. Thaksin got things done for them.

Thaksin was never the richest man in Thailand, he was one of the richest thru his own businesses even before he entered politics.
The richest man in Thailand and the world is the Thai King.

ShinCorp is a business not a SWF like Temasek. The Crown Property Bureau would be a more accurate comparison.

Members of Thaksin's family were/are in politics as elected representatives. His is just one of the many political families on thai politics.

Thai Rak Thai party is hardly the PAP. Though it became a one party government, it lasted only for a single term. It was later banned and had members disqualified.
You will never see this happen to the PAP.
