Seems like they have unlimited spending power. Ktv so many times a week calling chickens etc.

Take note: of course that doesn't mean they are really rich but someone that doesn't really worry about his spending does appear to have lots of money right?

I once know a 2nd Sergeant army regular. He only has O levels. He can earn chao chao $4k at least. After he kana kick out for being a retard, he go and be a waiter. Guess for certain ppl, army is the best thing that can happen to them. Haha!

Army pay is not high but comfortable with benefits. Most army regular appointments are so relax and switched-off, some smart ones actually do part-time or some sideline for extra income.

The thing is some regulars really lead a relaxed life. Good thing get paid for doing fuck at all. Bad thing no job satisfaction but then again in materialistic sinkieland it's how much you earn anyway.

Not when you are 40 something, not up nor down, economy not good, your contract expiring and they don't renew your contract....

Real case with my relative...now driving taxi...

So those always eat snake better wake up....better look busy or pretend to be busy...nobody owes you a living...

Damn....that's what i've been wondering ever since my NS days....

Those fucking regulars can buy new cars with losta souped up gadgets (Initial D wannabes) and go for "fuck holidays" regularly and fuck tons of chickens behind their wives/ gfs back.

Quite a few I came across actually have families to feed and they don't exactly look like they were born with a silver spoon in their mouths.....

Wonder where the fuck they get all those money to indulge themselves.....

Army pay is dependent on vocation, and whatever additional monthly bonuses u get. eg. if you have jump wings, or marksmanship or something, u get a little bonus every month. Because its based on vocation, some sergeants can earn more than officers. Also, RSAF personnel tend to earn more because their vocation is more technical. They also don't have to pay for food, and even lodging, if they are not picky. Just stay in camp. Some like RSM get a MINDEF car for free. I know of one SSGT who has his own room in the barrack, eats there, has TV in his room, etc. He has no mortgage payments, saves a lot of money every month. And a few times a year, when the SAF sends him for overseas excercise, he chiong like crazy and have a good time.

This SSGT has no HDB pigeon hole of his own?

The short term benefit is as what you say save a lot of money each month.

Long term wise he is missing out on owning a HDB flat - HDB flat values appreciate fast, they make good investment.

It is debateable whether money invested in HDB is hassle free?
There are I think better options which are cheaper & easier for a single.

When you're dealing with banks you have to remember to keep up with the payments. The longer your loan period the more $$ you are paying. Must also do area maintenace of the property, even if you rent it out it's an extra worry. If your young & single why would you want the hassle(s)?

There are alternatives such as investing in shares which will provide dividens & capital appreciation.

What is good for one may not be good for another. But the pay is decent enough for the switch-off job they have to do. Smart chaps will use their army pay as base. Take office time to invest and speculate in shares. Otherwise, upgrade oneself academically using army time to study.

For regulars, once they sign on, how much they earn in their life is fixed. Forget them making investments or trading, if they are so smart, they wont sign on in the first place. ALL regulars i know, once they sign on, first thing is buy car and go after all the material things. They literally given up on improving themselves, as they know come rain or shine, their next pay check will be in on the 10th. Life has no more meaning for them to upgrade. Their attitude degrades to one of "Don't make mistakes", rather than "explore all opportunties" as the system they are in rewards them if they do not "Cockup", hence they have no more drive. I would say this applies to > 70% of the regulars...

In my time army life was not seen as a good career path. I only know of 1 classmate who signed up to join as an airforce mechanic & he regretted it because they eventually pushed him out replacing him with higher educated qualified ones instead of upgrading him..

The problem with the Spore army is they don't invest in you. It is a dead end career wise unless you're being groomed for a political/GLC career.

Been a long time since I've had to deal with the army, So don't know if the situation has changed.

I heard they get $500,000 if they serve for 20 years?

i think they multiple your last drawn salary with a certain number to calculate this sum

and that number differs for officer and nco

Free lunch everyday. I think it's pretty good

Are u ok or not? U ask around last year, see how many people lost money selling their HDB flats. A lot of them did. My friend bought a resale 5 room for $650K this year, than must renovate another $100K. The flat must appreciate to $1 million for it to be a good investment. Not going to happen in his lifetime.

On weekdays you can always see regulars (in no 3 uniforms) going to play golf. Jiak liao bee.

free food, clothes some even free lodging, cheap beer. good life until early forced retirement at 45 or 50.
