AFP: Singaporean arrested after Facebook attack on government

The story about the arrest of Abdul Malik Ghazali has gone global with AFP doing a story and all major news wires carrying it. The story has probably more international exposure than the YOG itself.

AFP: Singapore: A Singaporean man who attacked the ruling party on Facebook and urge people to "burn" a cabinet minister has been arrested on charges of inciting violence, police said Wednesday.

In a statement, police said they had arrested a "man in his late 20s" on Tuesday "in connection with investigations into offences related to incitement of violence".

The statement did not name the man or give details of the offence, but said that he was released on bail pending further investigation.

Local media identified him as Abdul Malik Ghazali, 27, who posted a series of comments on the social networking site critical of how Singapore is hosting the inaugural Youth Olympic Games (YOG)

The August 14-26 event, held for competitors aged from 14 to 18, has generated limited public interest, with many events blighted by empty seats and the host country's athletes faring badly.

Vivian Balakrishnan, the minister for community development, youth and sports, has come under particular fire from online critics over the games.

Abdul Malik's postings on his own Facebook page and on a separate group account called "I hate the Youth Olympic Games Organising Committee" are also critical of Singapore's ruling People's Action Party (PAP)

Abdul Malik, who works for a company specialising in wood and flooring, said on his Facebook page that he was arrested "due to my involvement in anti-YOG and anti-PAP Facebook pages".

One of his postings highlighted recent floods in Singapore, the escape of detained terror suspect Mas Selamat Kastari, the amount of money spent to host the games and reports of the poor standard of food served for games volunteers.

He said it was time to "burn" the sports minister and the PAP. "Rally together and vote them out!!!" he wrote.

Abdul Malik said in comments published Wednesday by The New Paper that "the comment is a metaphor".

"I did not intend for it to be taken literally. I did not mean for someone to actually burn," he said.

Some of the banned words you shouldn't write or utter in Singapore:

Burn, kangaroo court(wearing T shirts with kangaroo picture is a no-no), bomb, kerosene, acid, Seng Hang Tong, die, kill, knife, be careful, watch out and......
However they are also words that you can write and say publicly:
Fuck PAP, PAP is Bastard, the government is greedy (don't say corrupt okay), PAP is an evil government, LKY is a tyrant, Lim Swee Say is a clown, Irene Ng let an old Scottish man fuck her CB, PM LHL is an Ass Loon, Ho Jinx lost our CPF money and.....

So if Singaporeans "fired" a minister, do they mean they want to barbecue Ah Seng again?

And will PAP next time say that "sacking" a minister incites violence because it alludes to a blanket party?

Fucking bunch of cheebyes.

The YOG finally gets international media attention!

Yes, its all planned. YOG gets this chap to write about burning Vivian the Chindian (he already looks like a burnt chinese anyway), than they call the mata to arrest him, and bribe someone at AFP to write the article, all for the purpose of increasing attention for the closing ceremonies. Its all so transparent.

Aiyo, your writing too small, can't see clearly but deserved to be enlarged with large bold print as reminder to everyone what sort of "elites" we are living with.

Agree with you. The authorities here are so ultra-sensitive that words can be interpreted both literally and figuratively, whichever suits their purpose.
So if we want to vote them out of office, we cannot say "kick" them out. That would be held literally against you for assualt and battery. Similarly, if you want them to wake up their fucking idea or more politely, to rethink their priorities, you also should think twice before uttering "I'm going to teach them a lesson" because they suspect you are up to no good or planning to use force or violence.:mad::mad: Talk of overkill!

How many times have Sinkie have been told that I control the press and media and everything else inbetween?

I have told you that Sinkie are daft but yet they are so daft, as not to understand the above statement.

No wonder Sinkie are daft.

No, they're damn daft.

Instead of using the word "burn", would other alternatives like "roast", "grill", "bake" or "steam" have a softer effect?

Don't ever tell them to "wake up their fucking idea".
They may interpret it as someone wanting to have sexual intercourse with their brain.

I hope you are not joking! The other F-word, 4-lettered F--k word is also Governement endorsed for your info! And funded by YOG (Your Overbearing Gehmen) from the taxes we paid

Since the first day I entered NS, I was subjected to tax-payer funded verbal abuse sessions by civil serpents with the use of 4 letter F-words.

Especially dramatic was the use of "F--K" words by my CSM in the army. That KNNCCB Pinoy (yes Pinoy) CSM, a foul mouthed civil serpent, taught the use of the four lettered F-words to us recruits NS Slaves. The F--ker's name was CARLOS some of you may know this BASTARD Sonofabitch from ITD Tekong in the early 1980s.

And all this YOG does not know,? As if we have recruited angels as civil serpents?

Is the word "FIXED THEM UP" endorsed by our own govt?
