AVA probes pet abuse case
THE Agri-Food and Veterinary Authority (AVA) is investigating an alleged case of pet abuse that was uploaded onto video sharing site YouTube.
Netizens who saw the video of an anonymous woman beating her dog reported it to the Society for the Prevention of Cruelty of Animals (SPCA), which then referred the case to AVA.
SPCA was alerted to the video on Sunday, and has appealed for information through its Facebook page for more information.
Ms Moss said that although other pet abuse videos have been reported to the SPCA before, the location of the abuse is usually identifiable, making it easier to catch the abuser.
But this case was 'very different' as there was no information available other than the video itself.
If convicted of animal cruelty, the offender can be fined up to $10,000 and/or be imprisoned for up to 12 months.
The video can be found at here.
